How do XJs get away without a wrap bar on the stock SOA configuration? My only guess is stiff springs, but the Xj is failry light and the ride doenst seem terrible. The springs can't be too stiff cuz I've squatted the rear of our XJ with minimal weight.

My brother in law twisted his up pretty good doing uwharrie wheelin. So I think they are not getting away with anything.

Over time you'll get axle wrap. I experience it now on my '98 with 145K miles on it from some standing-starts. The only cure is new leaf packs, which hopefully I'll be getting fairly soon.

I have been running a Rusty's 3.5" AAL 1" steel block for 4 years and I don't get it very bad. I recently added some 2" Shackles and it's still not bad. I am not sure why every one else gets it so bad. I will be going to some new springs when I do the 44 9" combo in the spring.

mmmkay, this is the first I've heard of anyone getting axlewrap on an XJ. Does anyone use a wrapbar?
It seems all the YJ SOA jobs need a wrap bar or they'll toss U-joints, must be the shorter driveshaft?
I'm just reading up in prep for building a URE-XJ cruiser :driver:

Just add another main leaf to the pack. That should do it! Or if you want more lift get some beefy lift springs.

Soccer mom's don't notice axle wrap.

Could it be that a YJ axle is in the center of the spring and a XJ is not?
Usually having the axle pushed toward the rear of the spring helps create more axle wrap. I think SOA YJ owners notice it more because larger tires and lower gears make it more noticable than in a stock (or mostly stock) XJ.
You can help save u-joints by having your driveshaft pointed about 2 degrees below the t-case, instead of directly at it.

I ran 8" alcan springs, 38's, and plenty of power on my XJ and never had a problem with axle wrap. I saw all sorts of traction bar contraptions, but I never really saw the need for one.

I probably wouldn't have axle wrap on my YJ if I had $$$ Alcan springs

The new Dana 300 made my dshaft 5 inches longer and the axle hop/wrap/ujoint banging is almost gone. Weird?

Yeah, those are some high dollar springs. But are awesome.

That's because those are good, strong springs. The normal stock ones are quite weak. If you do decide to stay at stock height, at least get the HD leaf packs that were available on tow packages.
