when u guys do an soa on a wrangler what springs are u using? ive heard that stock springs have bad axle wrap problems and may sag or create negative arch. i have 3 1/2 springs now that are sua and from what i have gathered from previous threads that using theses springs on top would be way to tall. what springs should i use? i will be going to a 35-37 in. tire(undecided) and dont mind trimming fenders if i have to. any opinions would be great. thanks:popcorn:

stock springs will ride the best and flex the best, in most people's opinion. When you got SOA you will need to make an anti-wrap bar... this will keep your springs from wrapping... stock or whatever choice you go with.

RE makes a really nice 1.5" SOA spring, but they're not cheap....

really old picture, but this is SOA with 3.5" superlift springs and a 2" body... stock shackles.

Stick with stock springs, they flex great and they are cheap. I'm running stock springs and 38s(some trimming) and I wouldn't want it any taller IMO. You WILL need a traction bar though.

Actually I got the RE springs from CRS, and the price was very good IMO. I like the 5 leaf packs better because my 6 leaf packs (I used on the rear) are too stiff, unless your rig is heavier somehow.

Go with more thin leafs than fewer thicker leafs. Flex will be greater and it will far reduce neg arch. I have a alcan 7 pack up front that have decent abuse and have lasted 5 or more years. No neg arch...just lookin like a "w."

Alcansprings.com is a good company to get you exactly what you need. :driver:

What is IMO and CRS??

Man erik! LOVE your JEEP! EXACTLY how i'm trying to build mine! I want to "clone" yours ( old pic )!! Would love to know more specs about it in PM or seperate post! ( don't want to hi-jack anyones post)

Replying to your PM now.....

keep in mind that the look i had, though "cool" was NOT reliable or the least bit safe.... which is why it's still not like that in a way.....

At $150 each (MSRP) for the RE SOA springs save yourself some $ and just use the stock springs at first. They will serve you well, allow 37-38" tires and will save you money. You may not need an axle wrap bar. If you have a stock motor/tcase/diff gear setup you might get by without. I ran quite awhile without one and only needed it after going to a 4:1 kit in the tcase. At least you can see first using your stock springs. If you decide you need one, you can fab one a lot cheaper than buying the RE springs. Be glad to help you make one if you decide you need it.

I run the BDS double military wrap springs. in the wrangler 3 1/2" lift variety. I am heavy and they have sagged some. The good news is they are guaranteed for life. When I replace them I will put an add a leaf in them. Fronts seem to flex better than the rear. Nets me better than 1K on the ramp.
Would be happy with it if I could contain the wheel hop

I'd like to go to SOA with OEM YJ springs on my CJ7 as the next step....It would be a good idea toat least weld a traction bar mount onto the axle housing while doing the perches, that way it you find you need one you can just fab up the bar and attach it. I'm sure thats what I'll do.

I'd just like to get a set of springs that actually flex under my jeep ...it certainly doesn't need to be any higher

....I dont quite understand how the same springs are fine when SUA, but as soon as you flip it around, you get axle rotation and spring wrap, but thats another thread.

I meant to ask Erik ....is that the same jeep in your avatar as pictured in the thread?
Steve

yes same jeep. pulled out the dana 30/35 and swapped to full widths, comp cut the rear, tube fendered the front, and added about 8" of wheelbase in the back.

it's not as pretty as it used to be, but it's a lot meaner now, hehe

im running modified stock YJ leafs up front, I started off with a XJ #2 leaf in there and had more wrap what i liked. I then added a modified XJ main leaf setup as a mil wrap So far im very happy with this setup. It flexes well and is my wrap is better..

I'm running 8 leaf alcans out back.. best thing since sliced. They have a torque leaf on the top and I don't run a wrap bar..These things rock..

My top leaf on both sides in the rear are starting to bend about halfway from the pin to the front hanger. The rears are not military, so it will be funny when one finally goes snap snap...
