Sometimes I really wonder about government

Saw that and thought, once again, I HATE my government. Oh and BTW moving to Chit Chat.
On anotehr thought why can we only get emasculated versions of great vehicles available everywhere else in the world? SMH

i can drive through downtown raleigh and show you 20 vehicles that are probably less safe than that was

I can look in my driveway and find 5 of them......

It's all about money and the epa hippies. Why don't you think we have some good diesels in small trucks like the Tacoma? Just like the emissions inspections in nc that don't make any sense. If they really cared about emissions they would test cars older than 96. Those are the ones polluting. Its all about easy money for the state and the businesses that run the inspection stations(who donate to the campaigns). When is the last time you saw an accident because a car had the check engine light on?

Sorry end rant..

It's not just our country. Read about some of the shit overlanding people have to go through.

I don't really get why everyone is so up in arms about this.... They falsified documents to illegally import a vehicle into this country. The government turned around and demolished the vehicle as a result. To me, it's not about the vehicle's safety or lack thereof, but more about the fact that someone was trying to use a loophole in our system to illegally import a vehicle into the country for a bigger profit than someone doing it legally.

This is exactly the case. Could have been a stolen vehicle, since they changed the VIN too, correct? It has nothing to do about the safety of the car or not, it has to do with the car being illegally brought into the country with a washed vin and paperwork.

No, you can't legally import them into the US. At all. Because of Federal regulations.

While I agree - it's about the law-breaker, not the vehicle...
The problem is the reason WHY they are basically forced to do it illegally... b/c there is practically no legal way to import that vehicle.
Which is pretty retarded - what if you wanted to use it for off-road only use? As a farm truck?

I get the requirement for safety and emission standards. Some are ridiculous and overt he top... but I understand why they are there.
But it seems to me they should only matter at time of registration, not just importation.

OK... here's where I have to stop you.... Nobody HAS to import that vehicle. It's a vehicle that people are buying overseas for $35,000 American and reselling for over $120,000 on the black market. That's sort of like saying, "Since there's no legal way to import heroin into the country, the government is FORCING me to smuggle it in via bags up my rectum"

The problem comes in when you allow one for "farm use or off-road only" (yeah right - a truck you spend even $35,000 on that gets used on a farm only), then magically they become used otherwise. I can't count the number of times I've seen "Farm Use" vehicles on highways. By drawing a line in the sand on certain vehicles potentially eliminates this as an issue. There are certain years that the Land Rover Defender 90 was allowed to be imported and the 110 has been allowed one year (1995 I think). I don't know what the rationale is for those years being OK and others not, but it's there for a reason.

Instead of crushing, action the vehicles off, all proceeds go to the Gov't, everyone wins.

Ding, ding, ding.. When we ship machines abroad this can be a real issue. Paperwork & vin's on the machine must match exactly or they will not be allowed entry. When shipping to some countries. Aus. for example, we must show proof that the machine was steam cleaned & all pallets are heat treated. This is due to insect issues..

Pallets, wtf? Leave the wheels on. Dumbass gubberment! Probably some dushbag dockworkers union clause, right?

But the officer speaking to the camera is talking SOLEY about SAFETY. He's seemingly brainwashed by the way he's talking, that he's saving lives and that's the only thing they are trying to accomplish.

If this is to stop stolen vehicles because VINs don't match or that someone is cheating the system, then MAKE THAT THE REASON. I don't mind that asynchronous as being lied to about why.

And seriously? safety? If that's the case they'd have a Hay day with my old Jeep.

the reason he keeps referring to a "safety" issue is purely emission related. (99% sure) most of europe doesn't have near the emission laws that we have. you should see what the japenese and chinese have to go through to get a car inspected. (last time we discussed it, the cost was somewhere in the $3000 range)

we ship machines in containers broken down to be reassembled on site & at the dealership. So yes heat treated pallets. Some countries require the machine to be disassembled due to illegal contraband such as drugs, infected monkeys & mexicans.. (no racism implied, just a funny)

Think about it, An insect hitching a ride to a place with no natural predators & can be very destructive to the environment.

Why not do the same thing on our border with Mexico? Might stop the express lane.

I think they should ship Mexicans on heat treated pallets too...

Heat treated Pallets. What a bunch of BS. That only effects bugs that are already in the wood when they cut the lumber. It does nothing for bugs that get in the wood after the pallets are treated. My pallet manufacturer laughs at the heat treat requirements by the gov't.

I've got pallets that are beat up, UV and wether stained, and have the heat treat stamp. They have obviously had the chance to be infested with who knows what. But as long as that stamp is on it, it's good to go overseas.
