Hello all. I am in need of some 2"x.25" DOM. Does anyone know a vendor near by that can supply a 20' stick at a reasonable price? Also, what would that price be? I would like to avoid buying 3' sections from Barnes and having them shipped. Thanks!

Hopefully you have an arm and a leg you don’t want anymore :D Not a lot of good options around my parts. Might have to look west.

Depending on how fast you need it, I can get for around $360 per stick.

I’d have to add it to an order to meet delivery minimum as it alone doesn’t meet that.

But I can get it to rocky Mount if it helps.

Pm me if needed.

There are a couple of steel suppliers out of the Norfolk area that would probably be more convenient than having something shipped across the state or delivered for a fee.

Rocky Mount is where I would head....

If you do not have an account with anyone unless you luck up, bend over.

That style of tube and size is not everyday sold stuff and they know it. Results may vary but supporting a board member who I know by the price and experience isn't making jack would be mighty good of anyone.

My best luck has been a cash sale with Ryerson steel, (not sure if they are in your area). I don't have an account with them and just pay when I pick it up. It take about 20mins to pick up because normally they have flat bed semis picking up and delivering to their regular customers. Just be ready to pick up a 20-24' long stick when you get there. I've compared local vendors and even people who buy steel on a regular basis and Ryerson was cheapest. The more you buy the better discount you'll get. One stick you'll pay more than if you were buying say 5 or 10 even if it is all different they will lower the price. If you know anyone else looking to buy steel get an order together so you can share in the savings.

About the only supplier out here is Dillon, and they buy from reyerson so if you go to a local supplier, you’ll be paying middle man.

I buy some stuff from Dillon and some from tri-state steel in reidsville, and have accounts at both.

The price I listed above is my direct price at tri-state.

1.75 & 2.0 .120 wall is $190/stick
2.0” .250 wall is $360/stick.

I don’t know what’s available in Norfolk/va beach but that may be easier/closer for you and potentially cheaper if you find a supplier that moves more volume on the wholesale side.

Also keep in mind that the pricing is volatile and quotes are usually good for 24hrs to 7 days, sometimes only till the end of that business day depending on the market.

You could also buy 4’ pieces from Barnes 4wd also a local nc vendor and board supporter for $91 each plus shipping. At That price, they aren’t making a ton of margin except for their volume discount when they purchase the steel but have to process and ship it to you.

That would get it to your door, likely if you went that route when posting, it would probably be on your porch today.

Thats what I did most for my front links / steering. It was cheaper than getting cut lengths locally, even after shipping

I haven’t found anyone that sells DOM yet besides Metal Supermarkets ($17/ft for 1.75x0.125 DOM :( ). All basic structural square tube and pipe that I’ve found.

Thanks for all of the replies guys. I'm not looking to tackle this project until next fall at the earliest, just doing research right now. Maybe I'll get lucky and steel prices will come down by then.

Shows you what I know. I have been going to Alro in Greensboro, basically buying drops. Didn't know about Tri State. Now I see that Tri State is opening a retail location on Richardson. I'll have to go check that out.

Alro is open on Saturday which means I don't have to try to sneak out of work to go there.
