Speedo sensor broke? T/C problems?

I was on my way to CN when the Jeep shut off! It started back up, but the speedo didn't work. I pulled over to find trany fluid all over. I turned around and made my way back home. I stopped at Ross Jeep in Boone and was able to get a new sensor (my old one bent the shaft! see pic), but they didn't have the housing in stock. So the shaft is bent and the housing cracked in two! What would have caused this? Anyone else seen anything like this?

Also, everytime I would go to stop at a light I would push the clutch in and it would die. As long as I stab the gas before coming to a complete hault it would be ok.

Here's the link to the pic of the sensor

Any help greatly appreciated!

I found that not only replacing the sensor and cup, but you also have to rotate the sensor to engage it. It rotates in increments of 45 deg.

Just incase someone else has to replace.
