I've got an 81 Toyota 4wd and the speedometer cable is broken. I was wondering if anyone here has replaced thier speedo cable and which one you went with? I want to stay away from the dealer, but if I need to spend the extra $$$ to only do this job once, I will. The ones at Advance Auto are much cheaper than the dealer.
Thanks

I've used many parts stoer speedo cables in the past with good results. Just make sure the new cable is exactly like the old one before installing it. I put one in a Mustang that was about 8" too long and it broke very quickly due to the extra length causing it to route wrong and bind.

I think i need to look for one as well. I put a new 29 tooth speedo gear in my Jeep to suffice for the 35" tires. Before the speedometer would bounce and jump and be off by 10 miles. Now it does nothing. But no biggie, all the other gauges work and my GPS tells my speed. Would this make the check engine light come on?
