I have a stock 84 4runner and adding 3'' lift kit and 33's and was told to use spools in front and rear just unlock one hub till i really needed it. I drive it on the road more than off. It is stock 22r 5speed and 4.10 gears. Any help?

the only real downside to a spool on the street is the onlookers wondering WTF is wrong with your truck in a parking lot as the tires chirp going around sharp corners.

In the front, it will make turning a real pain in the ass off road when 4wd is engaged

unless you have locking hubs in the front, like he mentioned, then you can just unlock them and roll along like it's unlocked.

I would highly recommend not spooling a rig you run on the street even occaissonally. The chirping an dhowling is pretty embarrasing. Its not just parking lots, any time you stop and make a turn, like a stop light/sing. I take my XJ out once in a while, maybe its not jsut the welded rear thqt attracts attention, it has 666 spray painted on both doors.

Spool in the rear = not an issue
Spool in the front = pain in the ass

Leave it open or throw in a lock right.

No spool in the front. Lock-right or the like.

Spool the rear. I had a non-selectable locker in the rear and never liked how it behaved on road. For example, if you are in a curve under power, everything is fine. Let off the gas, the locker unlocks and the truck feels like it wants to dive into the other lane. The spool won't feel that way. It stays locked all the time, but it is noisy and causes uneven tire wear.

They both have advantages/disadvantages. Pick your poison and let's go wheelin'!
