...specifically sports cards. Is anyone else in to this? I used to be a real big collector until the late 90's then I went to high school. At one time I had my collection appraised at 25k. I realize this is not the economy to be selling, but I haven't even looked at the collection in 5 years. It seems like the sports card market has dried up considering now you can hop on ebay and get a card with a $150 book value for $20. And now it seems like if your card isn't authenticated it's garbage. Anyway, does anyone know of an enthusiast site or auction site more geared towards sports cards? Anyone know of any buyers in the NC area...or maybe even a broker? I realize it is a bad time to be selling, but I figured there's always a market for top cards and that's all I'd be selling. I'm not expecting to get book value, but I am expecting to do better than taking a 90% hit on ebay. Thanks for any help.

I'd think your collection would be worth more as a collection than as individual cards.

No ideas on how/where to try to sell them, though, so I will wish you luck!

The market sucks right now....I was huge into it in the hey day decided to cash out a few years ago and my collection with a nolan ryan rookie, jordan rookie, reggie jackson, rod carew, a couplee matle cards, petee rose rookie, riken, gwynn, montana, young, aikman, sanders, bo, like no shit 25 UD#1 ken griffey Jr rooks and somewhere around 35 boxed sets plus a lot more ...went to 5 local places and the highest offer was $1500....gave them to my son told him to stick them in bicycle spokes.

Ive got a couple autographed pictures/footballs, joe montana, johnny unitas, terry bradshaw, just to name a few. Most of my autographs came from the Crosby golf event, I don't remember how but I worked there and got all kinds of access most folks didn't, I was very young. I have no intention of selling anything, Most of it is in boxes that I need to sort through.

just took 87-88-89-some 90 baseball cards in to local card guy.

he said add them to the free box for the kids. arnt worth 5 bucks.

and top sellers now is gaming cards not sports.

Yeah...that sounds similar to my collection as well. I tried cashing out once about 8 years ago and the same thing happened to me, the offers were insulting and not worth the time. I just don't get it...you open up a Beckett and you see what cards are valued at, but you bring them to shop or try selling them online and the best you can get is 10% of value. So who in the hell are buying these things to keep the price high?

Anyway, thanks for the input...I just didn't know if someone might have had some luck or knew a direction where I could find some.

Not trying to steel your thread but you guys talking about cards got me thinking about a card I can't find any info on. Have any of yall seen one like this.

That looks like a Classic (brand name) card. Classic hold their own when it comes to collegiate cards, so that's where I'd start.

nope ..they were commonly referred to as broder cards when i collected...basically knock o on licensed images..I had some cool ones but they were techincally illegal and basically worthless

OK, thanks. I've had this card? maybe 20 years and nobody has ever known/knew or could tell me anything about it.

Holy hell, just realized you're in GQ as well...I think you're the first person, besides me, from GQ. I've seen plenty from RoCo, but none from Granite...and I have no idea why I got so excited over that. Anyway, I'm right over by the high school.

yep I have like 20 of that series or did at one point.
2 of the coolest sets off cards I ever had was a Bo knows series where Bo posed in like 5 different athletic uniforms and a MJ space Jam set both were unlicensed because of each's deal with mainstream card companies but both were also obviously participants in the shoots.
