I am helping a buddy work on a 74 cj5 and he currently has 32x11.50 on it and wants to step up to 33 x 12.50. Would 2 inch spring shackles be a good way to do this or do you run into issues when using longer shackles?

He is also putting a 1" body lift in it mainly because he has one body mount that needs repairing. I am assuming with the 2" shackles and the 1" inch body lift he should get about 2 more inches of clearance. Am I correct in my thinking?

Chances are that longer shackles in the front will make it wander badly on the road due to increased side-to-side deflection and reduced caster angle. I wouldn't recommend it for a street driven CJ.

It is not going to be driven very much on the street mainly just a weekend toy. Planning on using it to play on the small rock piles and in the mud.

Do the body lift first and test fit them. If needed, trim the body or lower the bumpstops.

About the only problem with extended shackles offroad would be decreased approach and departure angles.
