well, im pretty new to this thread but figured i'd start a build/rebuild thread on an 87 Zuk Sammy

My buddy picked up this rig a while back, wheeled it for a few months and ended up shredding all rod bearings...catastrophic oil pump failure. sounded like a pretty badass cummins for about 15 mins getting out of the trails. So my buddy, not crazy auto mechanically inclined and on deck for a deployment didnt have the time to fix it before he departed... So with that being said he handed over the keys to me and asked if i would rebuild it. Not my money, rebuild it however i want with a basic budget, and a decent amount of time to do it...sounds like a good time to me.

87 ZUK with God knows how many miles and a blown 1.6 8v tracker engine
yj spring and SOA conversion front and rear sitting on 33s
stock trussed axles, welded rear, hub front
basic cage, front stinger bumper, tube sliders
misc odds and ends
this thing is pretty beat, rode hard and put away wet...

i dont know why i didnt think about posting a build thread a while back when i started it but i got a lot to go so please enjoy. I figure this is the best way for my buddy to follow the progress. Please feel free to give me ideas and dislikes, with a low budget in mind haha

how Squidward started out it's journey

ripped off old fender flares to find that the factory mounts are spot welded on with a combination of rust mud

so i decided to remove them in hopes of finding better fender flares

the fenders needed a face lift so i started the process of a "virtual lift"

picked up a set of new factory TJ fenders and took a 6" piece out of the middle to make them fit the front wheel well

removed the factory rear bumper and brackets, found a spider web of wiring, and welded some plugs in the factory spare mount holes

stripped out most of interior for more room to work, decided on building a rear tube bumper eventually so had to find a new place for tail lights
