Starter wire feeding winch/solenoids

Instead of having a second set of dedicated wires going right to the battery, would it be crazy to instead connect onto the primary wire feeding the starter? I already have hefty 2 ga wire dedicated solely to that.
Prevents running another large very hot wire across the engine bay (solenoid box mounted under hood).
 
Star washers under the guise that they afford a more reliable and efficient bite into ajoining surface, thus allowing a better continuity path.

GM was big on star washers for years, tillt they decided to actually study their effectiveness. They found that the star washers did little to enhance to connection, but were infact contributors to poor connections in harsh environments as they allowed space for corrosion to develop, especially in the newer alloys used in todays vehicles. c

After about 2002, you won't see too many Star washers on a GM vehicle, not like has been found in the past. especially in a continuity role.

Make a clean connection and SEAL the connection, clean is good, clean and dry is better.

A lock washer on top of a like material ( copper washer for copper lug ) flat washer to make the connection, very reliable, and keeps corrsion between disimilar metals to a minimum.

Electric forklifts use this set up, used in coolers and freezers, they suffer from a lot of moisture, and corrosion. not saying the connections never fail, but given the amp draw for said conditions, pretty damn reliable.

thats the way connection are made on back up power equipment.

Silicon based conductant sealant is cheap insurance. As is true water proof dielectric grease.
 
Hmm. Learn something new every day! :D I'm glad I never bought stock in star washers now. The only place I thought one would be handy was under the nut, to help lock everything in place. I would still recommend a lock washer of some sort on top of this connection.
 
Well it looks like the "Aye"s have it.
I think teh biggets challenge will be just physically getting to the connection and tied in nicely. Not alot of room up under there.
