My starter is beginning to bite the dust. Since its not a dramatic failure, that gives me time to evaluate other options. Are the high-dollar units really better? I don't really care if they can push my jeep up mount everest with a quad battery setup. What I do care about is they last for more than 3 years. The stock one lasted 3 years and the AdvAuto is trying to finish it's 3 year tenure. IIRC, I paid about $75 for one then. Now the cheapest thing they have is $100 and it's a reman. Reman'd OEM is $155, which makes the $250 Mean Green and $230 Powermaster XS look a little better if they really are of higher quality. Anybody got any experience with either of these?

Since I have no idea what starter is on your SiR Vtec TJ :flipoff2: , I can only give you history with a SBC starter, and my NAPA one has been going strong for years, even using it to pull me around back when I ran a manual trans and a carb.

Its got a custom JDM unit overnighted from Japan that makes 326hp(@42000rpms) and 4ft-lbs of torque.

Stock 2000 TJ starter w/4.0 (4.6 stroked) and manual tranny.

why not just rebuild it? that's usually the cheapest option. unless ^ can hook you up on a replacement.

Years ago we had a place here in Morganton the rebuilt starters and alternators. That was always my first choice. So I would look there. Now days, I would look at the salvage yards first, but they don't offer warranty, then advance or auto zone. But, my starter is more plentiful, and easier to find in the bone yard.

I wouldn't install a Advance or AZP starter if you gave it to me.

There is a guy in York, Black's generator Shop, that rebuilds 'em. I think he gets $45 for a starter, warrants it for 1 year, and beefs it up considerably.

^How many years?

Ben, Ill talk to you when I see you around school.
Braxton, PM will be sent momentarily.

Keep the good info coming guys...
