Starting next week I'll be doing Landscaping. I've never had landscaping job experience but I've push mowed the grass around my house since I was 13. I assume I'll be using a riding mower which sucks haha I've never used one and I'm not the lazy type so I'd rather push mow than anything. Any tips that y'all can give me would be great. Also, what should I wear on the first day? They haven't really told me much. I was hoping they'd give me an idea of what I should wear but they didn't. I didn't know if I should wear pants and boots or shorts and tennis shoes with the way the heat is. Thanks for the help! I appreciate it!

I landscaped during the summers while in college...never touched a mower. I was master of the pointed shovel and wheelbarrow. That's landscping, lawn maintenance is where mowers and weed wackers come into play.

After college, I mowed lawns, I can't remeber what footwear I used, probably boots. The bossman had the riding mower, we used the walk-behinds, the new guy always got the weed whacker.

I'd ask your prospective employer what the proper clothing is. I wore boots, shorts, and T-shirts. Sometimes we even got company T-shirts. Don't forget a hat and cooler full of water.

Just be careful when weed whacking that you know the difference between weeds and prized flowers that haven't bloomed yet haha :D

they hiring anyone else? haha

ive done plenty of lawn care both commmerical and residential

Jeans, boots, hat and and i'd say a thin long sleeve shirt.
It actually works well. I spent 3 days picking up trash at work( I ended up on the :poop:list that week so they took me off the tractor) 1 day shirtless, one with my t shirt and safety vest, and another with a long sleeve button up. The last day was byfar the coolest.

Keeps you from getin sunburnt and keeps the dust off ya.

Best advice I can give: Dont screw up the equipment or cost the boss $$$. Shut up, do as told and be smarter, quicker, better than teh other guy(s)

If you can swing it, go to REI or Dicks and get some of the high quality quick dry pants and shirts. They keep you alot cooler, and aren't as heavy as a regular t-shirt and jeans.

You're going to want a good pair of leather gloves until your hands get used to it, water resistant boots, sunscreen (if you haven't been out in it a lot), a large water cooler, maybe a bandana or twelve, and whatever attire is coolest but protects from flying debris.

and shorts and weed eatin may be a bad mixture if your legs aint used to it..... know from experience. write it all down

I did landscaping for one summer down in GA. It was hot as hell but I wore jeans, a t-shirt, boots, and a hat. I mostly laid sod, finish grading yards with a rake/shovel, and sprinkler systems. Jeans were a must since I was often on my knees playing in the dirt and so were boots. Wear sunscreen too and check to see if your boss has a cooler for everyone to use.

Edit: Just saw that you meant lawn care. I would still wear the same stuff unless you arent going to be operating a weed wacker like others have said, you can wear shorts. Safty glasses and an Ipod (if you can ) will also come in handy.
