I will try to make this short and sweet.
A couple weeks ago I noticed when I would let off the gas my CB would stop picking up static if I didn't have the squelch turned down. When I hit the gas again the static would come back as if the extra power was boosting my signal reception. Then my head lights started to dim also when I would let off the gas. And then to add to that my radio started cutting out for a second when I would let off the gas.
Figured it was an alternator issue but I was hoping it wasn't. Go to start it a couple days ago in the morning and it wouldn't start. The radio would come on, but when ever I would try to start it or turn on the head lights everything would cut off (dash lights everything). I took the battery to get it tested that night at 2 different shops, it tested good. But I still had the one shop charge it. 5 minutes after getting hooked up it was done charging. Put it back in the truck and it fired right up. Drove it around for 30 minutes and parked it.
Next morning nothing when I turned the key. Again radio worked and dash lights would come on but thats it. Took the alternator out and got it tested. It tested good, but I still put the spare alternator I had in its place. Took the battery in to get a "top charge" again and this time the battery tested bad. Bought a new battery, and put it in the truck. Again nothing.
I took the positive terminal connector apart and cleaned it with a wire brush and tightened both terminals. Now every once in a while I can turn the head lights on, other wise I hear a buzzing noize from the drivers side of the engine bay where the ignition coil also resides. But it doesn't sound like its coming from the ignition coil, it sounds like its coming from closer to where the head lights are. And when I try to start it, at least I can hear the starter click, but just one very short click.
There is a box attached to the ignition coil, similar to the solenoid on the starter. It has 2 terminals on it, and just like a solenoid it will spark if you bridge the gap with a screw driver. Now there is no spark. And the spark at the solenoid on the starter is weak. So I have pretty much lost. I am guessing its a bad connection some where. But as far as I can tell nothing is grounding out etc, but I am sure I could be missing something.
