Can anyone tell me where no paper is needed?

I had 'heard' no trailer registration/title necessary in SC, Tenn?

sounds like attempted fraud to me.

Edited to reflect Ron's negative, accusatory comment...

... I did try searching the interwebs but I am looking for current information and do not wish to search state-by-state websites.
Was hoping that someone from either of the two states listed above might know?

Sc does not title trailers , to my knowledge you need a bill of sale from the person you purchased the trailer from and also one from the individual or company they purchased it from. so it has to go back 2 possessions this is what i was told to register it in NC.

no; not at all.

Trailer is owned by a friend's(he is LEO) dad, who had got it 10 years ago from the place he still works at.

They are trying to sell it to me, and realized they have never regged it...

I guess I can always do a Maine reg, and x-fer.

SC does title trailers, but they don't require tags on them.

Ive got several SC titles.

They dont REQUIRE titles or tags but they do offer them.

You are supposed to have a manufacturers certificate of origin or a title to sell a trailer out of state for interstate commerce purposes.

Your op said "seller will have to be from said place" seller is from where he is from, you dont get to pick where you bought it from...

I bought a trailer in SC from an individual who purchased it new. It had not been tagged or titled. When I bought it, we signed a generic bill of sale printed off of the internet. I was able to get an NC tag immediately, but the title was held back by the DMV for approx 6 months to verify there were no other claims of ownership. Didn't really matter to me. I had no intention of selling it anytime soon ( still don't ). After the waiting period the title was mailed to me. Just FYI, you do have to pay the title fees when you file for it, not when you get it.
