Staun internal beadlocks or USA 6x6?

I need beadlocks and am trying to decide between the Staun internal beadlocks and a set of USA 6x6 double beadlocks. The USA 6x6 beadlocks are going to be about $300.00 more than the Staun beadlocks, but I need new wheels anyway so I will wind up spending about the same anyway.

I spoke to Andy at Carolina Rock Shop today about the Staun beadlocks. He was very knowledgeable and seems like a hell of a nice guy. It almost seems worth it to buy the Staun beadlocks just to deal with someone local.

I would love some input from anyone running either of the above mentioned beadlocks.

Thanks,
Brian

Hey Brian, it was good talking to you today.

Let me know if I can help you out with these.

As for my opinion......after seeing some of (not all of) the quality coming out of USA6x6 I would pick the Stauns. If you get a good set of rims from USA6x6 it is really a toss up.

If I can help you just let me know.......

I will be happy to show you how to do the install as well. No big deal

Thanks
Andy

How big of a hurry are you in?

If you need them guaranteed in less than 6 months staun is your only choice.

if time is no issue, then its a decision.

love my Stauns...

if you're going with new rims...either get something with a bolt-on ring, or have Andy weld you a "rock ring" in them to keep the rim somewhat round, and also to protect the dual valve stems...

on the rim protector idea.. Do you think a simply 3/8" ring would do the job ? Then possibly a small guard for the valve stems.

I've also talked with Zubs briefly about the stauns and when i decied to change it up it will most likly be to the stauns.. I really like the new design (and price) better..

possibly...

3/8" wide? at least 1/4" thick? probably would help keep them from bending really bad (assuming you're running steelies)...

you've probably seen mine, but here's what we did:

I am very satisfied with my Stauns. I got mine from Andy and like with Greg, Andy welded a ring onto my steelies.

He's an asshole. But I still buy from him anyway :flipoff2:

If you get a good set of rims from USA6x6 that arrive within a year of your order it's a miracle.

Fixed it for ya. ;)

There's also Stazworks, though he is pricier than 6x6, but the quality is there.

And yeah, it is worth it to support the NC shops when you can...

I'd lean towards the Stauns, but don't forget that rim protector.

I run the Stauns on a bling chrome dipped aluminum rim. the valve stems are protected b/c they are in the center of the wheel.

The stauns also save you mucho weight and no bolts to tighten plus if you destroy a tire you can still drive off the trail on the staun.

Is an external rign necessary with Stauns? I looked at them once but I can't recall.

I will up the ante with Hutchinsons. :flipoff2:

cutting a tire and bending a rim are the results of entirely different driving styles...

oh yeah...and with Stauns...make sure to remove them BEFORE attempting to weld the rim!!! ;)

:D

^ Very true. Bladders don't like heat.

Bending wheels is my other hobby.

I posted this here and on Pirate. The one thing I have noticed is that there is absolutely NO love out there for "USA 6xSucks" as they have been called numerous times. Stazworks definately has some cool beadlocks but I think I am gonna go with the Stauns from Andy.

Thanks for all the input.

Brian
