Where are you guys getting your tubing in the Raleigh area?

I need 2 sticks of 1.75 .120 wall HREW. I called Dillon and they want $6 per foot...that sounds pretty high to me.

Does anyone have any steel laying around? If not...where is a place that sells small quantities of steel without the ass raping?

$6 is really high, but its normal for small quantity sale. Its a full time job to get any tube in Raleigh area. Ive got about 30 sticks of various sizes laying around.

It's definately worth the effort to ride to Greensboro with a group purchase from Raleigh area. The local steel warehouse thinks they can charge out the ying yang since they are basically the only mass warehouse around this metropolis of an area. But I guess they know something?

Several local vendors will sell a stick or two for rate in which they purchased it if that's all you need. But they just have to go buy it again theirselves.
Price of metal fluctuates daily. That place in Greensboro (name?) was about 75% the price last time I bought tubing back in the Spring. I hopped on a group purchase on here a couple years ago where we got it at 45% of the Raleigh price.

Sore subject for me when I go buying steel.:fuck-you: I'd waste the time and gas just to break even on a $150 purchase than to go local.

Well i hoped that someone local in raleigh would have a stick (or half a stick, whatever) just laying around from a project or something, but i guess no one has any.

I may just have to buy a stick at assraping price.

Called earlier this week to Freedom Metal in Charlotte here's what i found:

All of it is .120 wall
HREW
1.25 - $4.12 a foot (about $83 stick)
1.5 - $4.51 a foot (about $91 stick)
1.75 - $4.74 a foot (about $95 stick)

DOM
1.25 - $5.82 a foot (about $117 stick)
1.5 - $5.96 a foot (about $120 stick)
1.75 - $6.72 a foot (about $135 stick)

BTW - I hate Dillon Metal in Charlotte! My last job we would call in orders before we got there thinking it would save a bit of time (yeah right!). Walk in the door and they would take anywhere from 15+ minutes doing who knows what before we could load it up. They would act soo confused when we told them our information like we never called! UGH! (and yes we were the only customers in the building!) ok, off soapbox...
