Mabey I'm an idiot for trying this, but I figured I'd better ask first.
I've got an 85 Nissan 4x4. I bought it after all the hoses and wires had burned in an engine electrical fire, and me and a buddy are putting it back together.
The power steering pump never worked on the truck before it burned. The hoses burned out of it too. I know that a power steering gear can work like a manual gear when the pump goes out. Previous owner drove it for a while that way, and said it wasnt difficult to drive.
My question... is it possible to simply remove whats left of the old hardlines, and plug the holes in the steering gearbox? Will it be likely to wear out or break quickly?
I'm new to steering work myself, so any information would be helpful.
