OK, here's the deal I have a 97' F-250HD that I want to run stock H1's on. I currently have 2 sets of ballistic fab 2" wheel spacers on there and I like the stance of the front but not so much the back (I can live with it, but it being narrower has annoyed me since I've owned the truck). I also have a set of dually 60 hubs I could use but as you know that would throw off my track horribly.

Now for the questions and options. I know you can take a DRW 14 bolt and drop SRW hubs on it and that should match up to a DRW 60 front pretty good.

Or I could get a van 14 bolt which is a little wider than the SRW and throw my spacers on there but then it may be wider than the front, or just about right not really sure.

What other options are there, dana 70? It can be done the same as the 14 bolt right but the 14 bolt axle flanges dont bolt up?

The main problem with the 14 bolt and the 70 is there is no VSS and I'd like to keep my factory speedo if possible.
what about sterling axles, All i can find is that they are in fact different as far as DRW, SRW, and C&C but I cant find any hard numbers.

Just trying to compile some info so maybe it its easier to find and here some opinions about it or any data you may have. (I'm sure most will opt for dropping the spacers if I can)

what is your wms-wms length on your front?

these aren't exact numbers, so feel free for corrections:

14 bolt (SRW or C&C) w/ SRW or Van hubs is around 68 or 69". in the neighborhood.
14 bolt (SRW or C&C) w/ DRW hubs is something like 63"

Van 14bolt with Van (or SRW hub) is 73ish.

also, it's supposed to be easy to install tone ring and VSS in a 14 bolt...but I have no experience there.
Here's the 14b bible:

I don't know very much at all about the sterlings, unfortunately.

seems no one does, all I have found is backing plate measurement's on the 10.25 and they were all different so I'm assuming the housings are different lengths similar to the 14 bolt. But I think the sterling uses the same hub on all axles.

A Ford DRW front is around 78"-78.5" I'm guessing I'm around 73" on the front with the 2" spacer and w/e on the rear. Maybe if a DRW sterling is wider it would match up with my 2" spacers upfront? Thanks for the help I'm going to look into the 14 bolt vss, maybe i can find someone with an OBS ford dually you will let me measure the WMS. I don't know of many good up pull it JY's around Charlotte.

I think there is a pull-a-part down there that's supposed to be pretty good.

well the 14 bolt C&C and SRW housings are the same, but the C&C has DRW hubs which makes it narrower (the hubs can be swapped for SRW/VAN to make it the same width).
DRW and Van are wider, I believe. in any case, it is all in here: http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/14b_bible/index.html

Sterlings are a mystery still...but I hope they become more popular so the price of parts comes down...they are very strong!

somebody needs to write a sterling bible :)

That pull apart sucks for full size ford stuff IMO i don't think I've ever seen a sterling there. picked up a bunch of other crap before though. I'll have too look around I guess. yeah the bibles are where I get all my info from a sterling one would be nice.

AFAIK, they're all about the same width, +/- 65.5" WMS. I've heard rumors of 64.5" for C&C (which could easily be a regular axle minus drums) and 66.5" WMS for dually pickup, but never any proof... and quite a few 65.5" duallys to contradict that. Also rumors of a ~70" widetrack, but again, nothing substantiated. Most of those trucks got Dana 80s or 135s.

Wondering if anyone has come across any more Sterling WMS info.

Came across THIS and he's claiming 72.5 wms to wms on that DRW axle. No one on here owns a OBS DRW truck who'd be willing to pull the tire to benefit the future of Off roading?

on my f250 im running the stock H1's,ive got 1.5 spacers up front and 2" in the rear...kinda evened them out...stack a couple 2" spacers...thinkin 3 per side...lmao....j/k guys

Bump this back up for anyone who cares.

Found this thread on pirate and it seems to sum it all up.

Theirs the SRW sterling that is around 67" and a C/C sterling that is the same WMS as the SRW but spring perches are different as the frame is narrower.

Then there's the rare 72" DRW axle from a dually pick up that has spring perches in the same place as the SRW but is roughly 2-3" wider per side.

I'd probably still add a spacer to the rear so thee hubs don't stick out so far if your looking to run stock H1 wheels because the hubs are about 5-6" long compared to the 14 bolt which is what, like 1.5-2"?

Found some more Pirate info...

HERE

Sterling 10.25 in a 1996 F350 SRW
Spring Perch to Spring Perch (Center-Center) - 45"
WMS to WMS - 65.5"
Backing Plate to Backing Plate (Inside-Inside) - 53.5
(For some reason, I also have 1/2" steel spacers on each side for a total of 66.5". Knowing the previous owner of my truck, I'd guess these aren't factory, but I don't know)
Leaf Springs - 3" wide.
The SRW axle uses a lug-centric 8 x 6.50" bolt circle and conical lug nuts.

Sterling 10.25 DRW Cab and Chassis Axle (from a 1993 Econoline Conversion VanTruck, or TruckVan, if you wish)
Spring Perch to Spring Perch (Center to Center) - 40.5"
WMS to WMS - 65.5" (Same as SRW)
Backing Plate to Backing Plate (Inside-Inside) - 53.5
Leaf Springs - 2.5" wide
The DRW axle uses a hub-centric 8 x 6.50" bolt circle and flat lug nuts

edit for DRW pickup axle measurements...
Sterling 10.25 DRW Pickup Axle (from a 1995 F350 7.3L)
Spring Perch to Spring Perch (Center to Center) - 45"
WMS to WMS - 72.5"
Backing Plate to Backing Plate (Inside-Inside) - 58.5
Leaf Springs - 3" Wide
The DRW axle uses a hub-centric 8 x 6.50" bolt circle and flat lug nuts

Just thought I add a little update to this thread since Ive been looking into it some more.
