OK, looking for wheels and tires for the buggy...

Since I built the buggy with 47s in mind, I want to stay larger to keep it close to what I had in mind originally.

43" SX: Seems to have decent tread and soft enough to work well. Pricy! $750/tire seems steep. Available in a 17" wheel which are affordable.

40" Treps: Always a good choice. Sidewall seems to be a little tougher than the BFG. Still a little smaller than what I want but will work. Available in a 17" which are affordable.

42" Red Labels: Once again, always a good choice. Sidewall seems to be a little weak. Only available in a 20" wheel. 20" aluminum beadlocks are not cheap...

42" MTR: Seem to be OK. Haven't heard much good or bad on them.

Others???

Stay away from 20's if you are hard on your buggy as you will bash in the rim. I had 42's on 15" rims and still managed to beat them up.

If your 4 link is set up for 47's I would go with at least 43's

41" Iroc radials or 42" Iroc bias ply.. Both are available in 17" wheels. Irocs rock.

Or you could go with a 47" SS LTB.. Also available in a 17" size.

Or a 42" SS TSL. Again a 17" size.

He has 47 ltbs currently & is looking for sticky tires...

I like everything about 42 red labels except sidewall. I'm running 20s w/ stauns.

I would go with 43sxs or treps from your choices. But I really like the 42 pbr for a non-sticky.

Eh, I prob. should have explained a little more.

I had 47 LTBs on H1 beadlocks. I want something a little lighter and sticky. Not interested in a non-sticky tire. The buggy will be used for crawling, race pre-running for ECORS, and some races.

For Southeast wheeling on a sticky tire you won't beat the 43" SX sticky IMO. I bought a set for my new buggy and I am impressed with the construction and how tight they mounted to the wheel.

The 42" Krawler is a killer tire but I would consider it more of a rock trail kinda tire. Krawlers don't clean out for crap but they stick to rocks like glue.

My top two are the 43 SX and the 42" Red Label. I'm leaning towards the 43SX so far but I've yet to hear a lot of good comparisons between them and the 42" krawler

if u go with the 43 sx plan on double beadlocks if u want to air down past 12lbs

some people have had problems with burping air lower than 10psi or so. Some have upgraded to double beadlocks but many have not had any issues. Finding a wheel with about a 1" wide bead seat area past the safety bead seems to do the trick. That and duct tape...

My vote goes for the Trep, as I have a set and they are awesome, granted its my first set of sticky tires though so its a whole new world for me anyways. Honestly though the 43" is my second choice and it would make sense given your suspension being built for the 47 to go with the 43" sticky. When my treps get beat enough I'll be making the same decision as you.

43" SX. they're badass and the best investment I've made to my rig. I love them :huggy: I really can't say that enough. We hit Harlan over the New Year's weekend and I was very pleased with how they handled the wet, cold and slimy that the trails had to offer. Every trail I hit, I made without too much throttle.... well, some throttle but I know my old 42" Iroks couldn't have done it (check that, I didn't get passed Big Perm).

they are my first set of stickies but i love my 43 sx's. ccompared to my 42 tsl's and then my 42 SX II's they are heads above them both. i have had zero problem with tire burping on my 17x9.5 racelines, and i routinely run them at 5-7 psi, albeit they may not be broken in good yet. but cpl trips to farm, flats, harlan, including the jump at the flats twice with no air loss. if i see any problem i will use the duct tape technique before modifying my racelines for dbl locks. these stick in wet or dry conditions, hot or cold, ime.

I never had an issue with the burping either but the last time I had them apart I went the duct tape route just for peace of mind.

:D

It will be some time before they are in operation as the buggy still isn't torn apart. While the tires were available and were the biggest ticket items, I went ahead and picked them up. I'm guessing mid-summer before its completely back together. I do have most items for the rebuild except for little items, like GPS power and antenna cord, GPS mount bracket, twin stick shifter cables, harnesses, orbital rebuild kit, steering wheel, wheels, and some misc other items...
