I gave the jeeps/buggys a rest for the past few years, busy with kids and renovating our house. I have however been riding my dirt bike quite a lot though. I usually go to UNF a couple times a week, unload at the bottom of Daniel and ride a 22mile loop of every trail. It usually takes me about and hour and 15 minutes to complete. Most of the time I go late afternoon, but went this past Saturday about middle of the day. It was myself two other bikes and a 4wheeler. Everyone has above average riding skills, we came upon several groups of jeeps, trucks etc... riding in a line, some stopped center of the trail and most idling through the woods, which is cool I like to trail ride too. But when we came upon some of these groups and went to pass them, we got lots of crappy looks and several "hey slow down, just wait". We heard it several times from several groups, we past all of them without issue, no one made any dangerous moves, the average age of our group was about 40, so it's not like we were a bunch of idiot kids riding out of control.
When I've been out trail riding (jeep) and a group of 4wheelers or dirt bikes came up behind me I quickly moved over and cheered them on, putting through the woods on a dirt bike isn't much fun and honestly is move difficult to navigate rocks etc.. than rolling at a decent speed. So remember it's called Uwharrie National Forest.....not Uwharrie National Jeep trail. Share the place, and if you want to stop and talk to your buddies about your trail ride, do so out of the middle of the trail. Thanks and enjoy the ride.
As for me I'm going to stick to my late afternoon and weekday rides to help avoid the traffic.
