SToy Buggy / Exo suggestions?

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=555900&highlight= Here is a good read...

Not that you should get this crazy, but it shows that you can achieve a pretty sick rig and maintain the cab...I would run tube through the cab, vs exo. and use lexan/plexiglass for front and rear windows. I think if you like the idea of half/soft doors, it wouldnt be too much trouble ,with a little patience, to make some for a set of toy half doors. I.E. cut down some toy doors to make hard half doors. Then get some round solid stock (should be able to bend pretty easy) and play around w/ making some frames for the soft uppers. An upholstery shop could make the skins for you. If you have a 2nd gen, I have a nice set of doors you could get if you need an extra set. good luck. -J

I merged my old EXO thread with the SToy buggy thread since they are the two possible directions...

I am PM'g quickracer as well in the background / he is gonna be helping me on this!

I have to admit as I read the comment / and especially the fact that I would end up having to keep the dash / firewall etc for the heat...I am leaning less SToy and more truggy / exo like I was first thinking.

I just thinking buggies are cool looking / if I ever beat up this body so bad I cannot stand it I am sure that is the direction I will go. (But retain enough to keep out the elements like JC etc)

SO....right now... looking at basically doing the tube bed in the very first picture in this thread.

AND...an exo over the cab and front fenders!

Here is a thought on the front fenders (the area most likely to get smacked)

This is some front fenders from a FJ40 "flat fender" style. I really like them / would be neat to do to eliminate the actual fenders and EXO / do these. I would add the skins myself. Not quite as wide as this example but enough to give some protection from rocks/mud slung off the tire. Essentially same width as current fenders?

Sam,

It sounds like you should buy a Jeep, LOL!

I'd keep the cab, build an exo-cage and just take the doors off in the summer. Maybe make removal sunroof/panel for some more open air feel, and get a sliding back glass if you don't have one.

Should I take this opportunity to remove the 3" body lift folks? The rear bumper, etc was welded and made to fit as is.

Right now I am thinking I am going to leave everything in place and just do the Exo over the cab / front fenders and then do the side rails down the rear bed like Ken (Bruiser) did on the blue toyota and his XJ.

That way I retain 100% the look and feel of a full bodied rig, but gain the personal protection the cab and keep the body from getting beat all to heck.

I am inclined to leave the BL in place and leave well enough alone but thought I would get a bit more feedback.

Ken - how has the side rail done for you guys / does it seem to protect like you wanted? (I know the green one they did a 2nd tube over the fenderwell that I don't like much)
