Wife's Exploder is due for a new set. Currently running the factory BFG Rugged Trail T/As, which have been... tires. Sidewall strength leaves something to be desired. We replaced one due to a cut sidewall, and two or three of the tires currently on it have cuts that are holding air.

It'll see some muddy job sites, some snow, maybe a little sand... but mainly just interested in long hwy life.

Looking at the Michelin LTX M/S, but with a premium of $70 per tire, I'm wondering if there's anything at a lower price point worth buying.

Tires are 245/65R17, if it matters.

Michelin LTX is a good long lastin tire for the price. As for what you stated, have you thought of BFG A/Ts, they last a long time on the road as well. They cost too I know but maybe someone you know has a friend at a tire store. Also, have you thought about callin Raleigh 4Wheel parts to see if they have any new take-offs. Don't know if anyone does that, just a thought.

Michelins....pay the piper the ride is worth it and they will last.

BFG only makes the Long Trail and the Rugged Trail in that size.

THE BFGs dont ride near as good as the Michelin's anyway...it not even a comparison IMHO...Cydney aint going mud bogging get her a good riding long lasting tire.

Quit being a cheap azz :)

Michelins without a doubt. I ran Bridgestones and then a couple sets of BFGs on the wife's WJ before I finally went to Michelins. The ride quality was the difference between night and day.

Reviews say the LTX M/S is terrifying in the rain and dangerous in anything worse.

We put 145k on 2 sets on the Tahoe and never had an issue.

Its an explorer....it supposed to flip right?

I've sold lots of the LTX's in that size and never had a complaint, The BFG Long Trail is also worth looking at though, I have several customers that have switched from OEM michelins to the BFG's and now refuse to have anything else.

I've had both the Cooper ATR and HT and they were great tires. I don't know what they run know but when I purchased them they were in the mid to low range. Great tire wear as well.

my vote is the Michelin LTX. longest life all season tire IMO. in fact i just recently convinced a coworker to put them on his Honda Pilot. never heard of major problems in the rain.

My DD 4runner had the Michelin LTXs on it when I bought it, mostly worn out. I drove it for about 2 years and I was surprised about how long they lasted. They absolutely SUCKED in the rain, but I attributed it to them being worn out. Got some BFG Radial All Terrains on it now and the gas mileage has suffered a bit and they are definitely noisier, but come winter time snow won't be an issue even though the 4runner is 2wd.

I still wanna know where you found them for $70 a tire, or did you mean $170?

I think he means they are $70 MORE per tire than similar tires in that size that he is shopping for. Not that the tire itself is $70
