Strong enough axles?

Formula Toy buggy, so it has Toy axles/drivetrain. Longfield shafts in the front (and possibly cromo's in the rear?).

BUT, are Toy axles strong enough for a person with a heavy foot, with 42" Iroks? I know the buggy would be fairly light, and the Toy axles are strong with Longfields, but that seems to be pushing it.

I would think for someone with a heavy foot, the max they should go is 39.5's

Suggestions?

Pinion becomes the issue when longs and rear cromos are used.
A 30 spline longfield is as strong as a stock Dana 60, ive seen 42 on plenty fo stock 60's.

Be a good idea to run 4.10 cromo yukon gears.

I agree. With Longs your shafts wont have much to blink at on 42s. They will be fine. X2 on the gears though, 4.10s are gonna be pretty necessary with that size tire to combat against eating gear sets every trip out. There are plenty of guys running 42s on toys and not having much of a problem (hell 40s are damn near standard on them out west).

Those poor trunion bearings!

i would try and save some weight with a good wheel choice. I am sure my 39.5 on my steel wheels w/ stauns and 1/4" weld on rings weight in the same as a set of 42s on a light choice. As longs as you go light on the buggy...you should be fine. Besides, 4.10 and laying in everyones shop and its fairly easy to swap in a third at camp and be ready for day two (when it does happen) That what the welded third in the tow rigs truck box is for...

I don't know much about Yota's, but a new 42" TSL on a standard steel non-beadlocked 15x8 rim weighs 134 lbs.

run a cruiser 3rd member with mini truck shafts, its what i have a i swear by it i have a heavy foot and i abuse my stuff, i wont put anything else in the rear of my toyotas
