I had a woman e-mail me asking about a center console, below I posted my Craigslist ad for you to read. Below that are mine and her e-mails.

------------------------------------------------------------
1998 Honda Accord parts - $1 (Winston-Salem)

DO NOT E-MAIL ME FOR PARTS THAT ARE NOT LISTED, I DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING!

4 doors, grey interior, silver exterior, $75 each

I also have the driver/front passenger seats, grey cloth, in excellent condition, they look brand new... $50 each or best offer

I have the center console as well. $20

Auto transmission shifter assembly $20

Make offers, I need this stuff gone, serious inquires only, no lowball offers.

Her: Needing console for a 1995 Honda Accord….please let me know if you still have it available asap!!!!

Thanks

Me: I have a console for a 98 honda accord. $20, it's grey. Not sure if it will fit your car though.

To note: Honda changed body styles in 97' I think it was. Console would most definetly not fit a 95' model.

Her: Thanks a bunch…I needed a beige color console…any suggestions?

Me: Buy one that is beige would be the obvious, maybe even get one that is for a 95 model and not a 98 model. Best suggestion I have is READ the posting before wasting people's time e-mailing about something they don't even have...

I get the generic e-mails askin "is your item still for sale" ,so I delete the subject title and respond with "which item".They never reply.

I have a g-mail account that I pester the scammers with. Recently did one with the "Is your item still available?"...replied back that "Yes, the item is still for sale."

Went on for about 15 emails back and forth. I never named "the item", they never asked about it. I'd ask questions like "is this item it the right size for you", "is black OK or do you want a red item?", etc.

Way to be a dick, IMO.

agree.

So she missed that it was grey in the original ad. She immediately noted her mistake. Why is that so unforgivable?
You can't expect everybody to know all the different model changes etc.

I'd guess by "any suggestion?", she meant, "Do you have any suggestions where I might find one".

IMO if this case gets on your nerves, you need to stop using Craigslist right now.
Because this is really small compared to alot I've gotten myself.

That was a really stupid question. She asked for suggestions, so I believe you did the right thing. Craigslist is so great yet so annoying.

When I was trying to sell my 89 SASd yota on 35s, I had somebody try to get me with the KBB price. I simply told them that they had the wrong vehicle. Mine is not IFS, it is solid axle. Try searching KBB for an 89 solid axle pickup. No reply back

The proper response would of been

You: maybe i can come by tonight and take a look. see what we can come up with. Who knows, she might be hot!

Yeah I'm with the "way to be a dick" crowd.

She may not be the brightest individual, but that's no reason to be rude to her. You could have ignored her email or simply replied saying that yours would not fit her car. (You obviously knew it wouldn't.) When she replied asking for suggestions you could had ignored that too. Or you could have said try some local junk yards or simply "Sorry, I don't know where to find one."

Her asking for help is no different than you or anyone else coming on this (or any) forum and asking for help. She chose craigslist as her avenue, probably because she doesn't know anything else. Hey, here's an idea, point her to a Honda car forum. I'm sure there's at least one on the web.

Okay, I'm done. Wanna grab a  bro? :D

lol, I would of given her Chris Harris' number and let him try to figure out whats going on.

I can 100% understand the frustration when dealing with CL ignorance, but usually I take it at face value. Usually, my dickiness corresponds to their dickiness.

Wasn't the first time she had e-mailed me about the parts, she had also asked at one point to buy a door off the car (hadn't told me a year model), and said she'd buy it, promised a couple times to come get it but never showed up and I never heard anything back out of her. Most of the time I delete the stupid e-mails, but sometimes I just have to make it a point for people to actually READ the posting before inquiring about it. Even with the "DO NOT E-MAIL ME FOR PARTS THAT ARE NOT LISTED, I DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING!" at the top of the listing you would be suprised how many (not spam) e-mails I get about stuff that is not listed. Normally I just respond with "Is it listed for sale?" and leave it at that. I really don't understand why someone e-mails asking about something that for 1 is not the correct body style (yes I understand this could be something many people don't know), but the obvious give away is:

"4 doors, grey interior, silver exterior, $75 each

I also have the driver/front passenger seats, grey cloth, in excellent condition, they look brand new... $50 each or best offer

I have the center console as well. $20"

But yet she needs a beige center console...

You want her e-mail address? Lives in Winston, I am sure if you tell her you have a beige center console she'd be all over you :D

I'm in the "You're not a dick" faction.

This was a recent experfience I had:

had my Pilot on CL. The entire vehicle.

Guy sends me a message and wants to know if he can buy just the cargo cover.

Me: Sure, how much you give me?
Him: What color is it? (There were pics of the Pilot including the interior in the CL ad)
Me: Tan. Same color as the interior
Him: How much? (I'm doing all this on my phone during dinner. I bought this thing 2 years ago. I had no idea how much I paid.)
Me: (I went home and looked it up. I paid $125 for it) $50
Him. Oh the most I can do is $30.
Me: It's not worth emailing you any further, much less meeting you for $30.
Him. I have cash. I can meet you tomorrow.
Me. No thanks.

2 weeks alter he emails me again and I ignore him.

2 weeks later he emails again.
Me: $50. (That's it. That's all I sent as a response.)
Him: Okay. Where can we meet so i can look at it?
Me: Are you planning on looking at it or buying it?
Him: Well, if it looks good, I can give you $30 for it.
Me. You're wasting my time. I hope you die in a fire.

I think we're all missing the point here...what was she doing out of the kitchen and on the computer.

Disclaimer...it was a sexist JOKE, I really don't feel that way, she could have also been in the laundry room or the bedroom.
