Suburban/Yukon/Tahoe

Is there a specific year to avoid? I've heard all of these horror stories about transmissions, rear ends, and engines dying in these things, but I can't pinpoint a specific year...does it happen just because they are abused, or do they just suck in general...
 
I have a friend who is selling his GMC Yukon Denali. Its nice and the tranny works just great. Out of your pice range tho, i think he wants 6 or 7k for it.

I am not a chevy guy by any means, but I have a 94 suburban that I just put a motor in at 292,000 miles, The truck has been in the family since about 96, and I have done all the maintenance on it since then. Over the years we put the basic stuff on it like alternator, starter, water pump, heater core x2, and a/c compressor. So just the basic stuff for a truck climbing towards 300k. If I was a chevy guy I would recommend a suburban with the 5.7.
 
hey man i got a 89 gmc suburban runs great drives great and it will pull anything u want with it. its got 84,000 original miles on it if your interestead in it. its 4 wheel drive and everything. its got it all man.
 
I've got an 89 that I love,its a half ton,but Ive towed all kinds of loads with it,my camper,lowboy trailer,anything that I need to move,and has seating for 8 people,and power everything,its a 350sbc:popcorn:
 
they are all good trucks. you shouldnt worry about they tranny if you arent hauling crazy stuff
 
No such thing as a bad one i have a 99 tahoe and 00 3/4 suburban both good vehicles maintenince is the key. The early 4l60e gave a little trouble but GM got that fixed. I had a 90 k5 blazer that never had the trans or case cracked on it just tranny services. The fuel injected 350 and vortec 5.7,5.3,6.0,7.4,8.1 are some of the best motors GM has.:driver::driver:

ive got 99 and it dose well with 6x12 with 3 4 wheelers and ive hauled few toyota trks also had good service seen one in statesville for like 3000 dollars like monday 4 dr tahoe
 
Ive got an 01 Yukon 5.3
tows the boat great, its towed thee K5 more than it wanted tto....plenty of power for the job brakes are iffy and rear suspension is a bit soft for my liking
 
OK...what would be better...2wd 93 GMC Suburban or 1997 Chevrolet Suburban 4x4?
I'm reading lots of bad reviews on the 97 chevy and good stuff on the 93 gmc...does that make sense?
 
I don't mean to be the odd man out, but my 97 Yukon sucks at towing. To be fair, it's got 203k miles on the stock engine and transmission, which have held up great so far. But it's underpowered (and always has been), the brakes flat out suck, and the rear suspension sags like crazy. YMMV.
 
What about all of the reviews I've read about the transmissions and engines dying early...and the alternator, and the radiatior, and the A/C, and pretty muich every other part...is it an issue of people just not caring for them, or do they suck in general?
I'd really like this 93 GMC Suburban that I may get in swap for my boat, but if not, I have an offer on a 97 Chevy Suburban for my truck and boat...
