im finishing up my 4-link on my toyota and i have see guys running suck down winchs and/or a center strap. how helpful is it to have the suckdown winch.

Good question I'd like to know the answer to as well. But always figured I should know it so never had the balls to ask it. lmao Subscribed!

Guys use the winch to lower the center of gravity on the front or rear of a rig depending on what there climbing or descending.

Say your trying to climb a steep rock ledge, When you pull up on it the rig seems to lean away from the ledge removing the weight from the front tires, Sucking the front down allows more weight the tires which helps get up the ledge. The same in rear when coming down.

The straps are there to limit how far the suspension drops out. More or less how far the frame is from the axle.

In the video below you can see how he uses it.

Great Write up on a TJ install

That's what I figured it was for but a lot of times I see guys pulling the rear down when going up which is what confused me. Seems like it'd hinder things unless the idea was to put more weight on the rear for traction purposes.

I say go for it. Can't hurt. Hell Harbor Freight sales a cheap 3k camo winch with a remote that should do the job.

nope brake wont hold need hd winch atleast 6k winch. I need one bad. When I go up daniels mtn my suspension fully extends and I am running 16 fox coilovers I cant see :poop: but hood. My coils are treaded all the way up on the shafts so they have alot of down travel sux big time on up hills.....

I run a 1700 warn in the rear of my toy. Its really nice on side hills, you can pull the back down and level it out.

The wireless remote on the camo winch sucks, but you can wire it to a switch.

X10000 on both accounts

my rear warn 1700 does a really nice job of leveling the buggy out on off camber situations. I fried my relays for the rear last time out and couldn't suck the rear down. I went over the same line as I had earlier in the day with the winch working. result was a flop on the side. could be driving, could be something else, but the lean and extra COG was noticeable without the rear winch working.

ok ill check some winchs out and see what i can find. i hope to have the truck sitting on the shocks today , been finishing up the rear of the cage and trying to get everything where it needs to go.
