So the wife and I celebrate 10 years next May. Seeing as how I don't have a romantic bone in my body (if I do, it perhaps is one of the smaller metacarpals), I'd like some suggestions for what to do and where to go in Charleston, SC. We will be driving, so any destination needs to be drivable from Lexington, NC. I thought about Myrtle Beach, since that's where we were when we first thought about getting married, but MB is the standard "family" destination when we all go on vacation.

I thought about Savannah, GA as well since it's about another hour drive more than Charleston.

I'd like to go somewhere we haven't been before, which really leaves the field pretty open. (we don't get out much!) Neither of us are into gambling, so places like casinos and the like are out, and she doesn't like the mountains, so somewhere like Pigeon Forge probably wouldn't work, either.

We honeymooned in Charleston 11 years ago, and have been back several times.

If possible, stay downtown/historic district. We've stayed there, and also over at Mt. Pleasant and Isle of Palms. Much nicer being in the historic district, as you can walk in the evenings, etc and hang out. you won't have to touch your car all weekend. Last trip we stayed at the Harbourview Inn...really, really nice, but very, very spendy. Many places in easy walking distance of battery park, rainbow row, city market, etc.

Google "gateway walk" -- you will find maps and information for a back-pathway walk thru cemeteries and green spaces, and off the sidewalks.

Eat at Bocci's

Magnolia cemetery -- crew of the Hunley is buried there, and 5 WBS generals

Before you go, read up on Phillip Simmons -- there is a good book on him also -- lots of ironwork down there, you'll enjoy it more knowing the history and person behind it

Go see the Hunley -- www.hunley.org

I was right impressed by the SC Aquairium

Do a dinner cruise -- several providers, I forget who we used....that was fantastic, out at sunset...

Have a few drinks at MadRiver bar, its an old church and if you like to drink and smoke head for The Rooftop. A carriage ride is nice if you do it earlier then you will know some places you may want to walk back to.maybe even go to Low Country Harley-Davidson on Dorchester rd and show her the hardwood floor, I did them!

threesome?? thats romantic!!

I also honeymooned in Charleston, do the walking ghost tour downtown, go get a nice meal and then meet the guide and have a nice little walk through the side streets with a knowledgable guide and maybe a few apparitions.............

.

The other day was our youngest child's 4th birthday and I commented that it was the longest time since I've known her that she wasn't pregnant. We plan on it staying that way.

I like all the OTHER suggestions, though!!! Keep em coming!

We stay in isle of palms right outside of Charleston. Very nice over there. We usually stay in the sea cabins. There are not the nicest place to stay but you do have a private pool and a private fishing dock. We always go into Charleston to sight see. Boone Plantation is pretty cool.

PLAN YOUR NEXT RIDE @ THE FLATS 828-442-7932

Also look up the Angel Oak. It is on johns island and is the oldest tree on the east coast. It's a Hell of a lot bigger than you think.
