I've been lookin for a new truck for some time now. I'm lookin for somethin thats a DD but can also be wheeled with gas between 15-20mpg. I need more storage space than a wrangler offers. As of now I'm trying to decide between a 4runner or Grand Cherokee. Can anyone give me some imput on a good DD and weekend wheeler?

x2 but get a 3.4 liter.

I'm a favor of the grand cherokee too :D

Not to sure about the 15-20 in a lifted grand though...it would get that on the interstate but i dunno about around town.

If you are looking for something newer then the grand would have the solid front axle i think and the 4 runner would have IFS. Just something to think about

from what ive heard the grand cherokees have a lot of problems with speed wobble if you lift them more than 2-3 inches.

I never had a problem with mine at 6.5". But I have heard of some people having speed wobble problems. A good site for grand cherokee's is mallcrawlin.com.

nagca.com is another site thats got a good bit of info on GC's, also, no death wobble with my jeep at around 6" of lift, but they are all different.

Toyota......duh, reliablilty is a no brainer. They actually hold their value and that will take a beating. 3.4 is a very good motor with little problems. You won't have to worry trans problems either. Stay away from the 3.0 though.

Wasn't the 96 GC the one that had the AWD thing going on. Do you plan to lift it? remember IFS has no flex in the front. Both lifts a pretty expensive too for anything decent size. Good luck I think both are great choices. I personlly like my lil old 93 Cherokee.

You'll be surprised how far an IFS rig with a competent driver will go. It ain't going to be a rock crawling cahmpion or anything but it'll go plenty of cool places. Even more with a locker or two.

does anyone have any recomendations as far as cherokees go. would it be better to go with a zj, xj or wj with a lift?

I like the ZJ over the XJ b/c of the coils. The ZJ is much smoother with the 4 coils. Even at around 6" of lift, my ZJ has a smoother more comfortable ride than my XJ with the 3" lift (which was Rough Country by the way, that may have had something to do with it). Ive even had friends ride with me on the interstate and be amazed at how it handled. Sorry dont have any input on the WJ. :driver:

4-Runner with an open IFS front and locked rear can TAKE A DAMN BEATING like my buddy JASON'S MOM! and can go places..... I've seen MetalMangler's IFS "gay pornstar" runner bitch slap Kodak rock in UNF.... If UNF is all you wanna do..... Toyota is VERY reliable. I would prefer to SAS a four runner because I tend to be alittle more Hard Core than UNF has to offer. Hope my .01 cents helps with your decision.
