Anybody running any of their stuff??? Specifically Cummins? In a previous post I asked about a shop for some related repairs (vendor) advice. Well one of those nearly stranded the truck today. My shifter cable for trans sheared at the column. I have incorrectly assumed it was column or brake switch related. Had I done some research I would have read all about the "rooster and comb" valve body B.S..
I tow 10 to 12k regularly. Stays somewhat loaded like a service truck constantly. Good service intervals. Never any bad fluid. 131k on the clock. No power add ons "yet". Always held off because of stock trans. Trying to figure a game plan.
Miles vs. Rebuild, repair only, or upgrade build?
Never real happy with the stocker. Doesn't seem nearly as responsive as it should be. Does act a little goofy while towing especially on ramp excelleration.

What say y'all? Advice welcomed.

Not in many years and not my stuff, but a good friend of mine who is a mechanic used them for his '98 24v that was pushing about 900hp.

Seems their customer service was great and the trans held up great. Only issue he had was getting the wrong torque converter which they rectified with no hassle. Only issue was we had to pull the teams out again.

I've heard nothing but good stuff from SunCoast, but that was 13 years ago.

They have been recomended by a life long friend and probably the best tech I have ever known. He speacialized in Ford.
I do know I'm not interested in ATS.
Really trying to figure out to what extent to go. Not real high miles but tows a lot. I've personally owned truck since 70k miles.
We pull the RV min 8 times a year let alone all the double duty as welder, tractor, lawn mower, enclosed for everything under the sun hauler.

Suncoast builds the best parts for diesel performance transmissions and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone or run it in my trucks.

Like @mbalbritton ... its been a while.
But I looked into them when I had my 2nd Gen, I ultimately went with BTS.

I'm pretty sure they have gone strictly PSD, now thoug.

Lots of good builders out there, I've used Suncoast products over the years and while.the rebuild kits are pretty much standard across the performance spectrum they do offer the best converters in my opinion.

I'd definitely upgrade! My biggest complaint with my Allison is the stock converter...they don't couple well and the converter clutch lockup feels weak at best. Soon enough I'll be having mine rebuilt with Suncoast parts and one of their triple disc converters.

Call James at mighty transmission. He is in winston now off 66. He is used to be in eastbend of 67. He has built several dodge autos for people I know over the years and all held up great.

Friend of mine had them build a unit for his twin turbo, fully chipped, injectored bla bla bla.... And spent a lot. It still slipped at full boost. However this truck made way more juice than I ever will practically build.

But spending what he did I would still be disappointed in how it pulled. He gave up on it and sold shortly after.

haha, man, automatic transmissions have to be one of the most 'black magic' parts on a car, yet there are 'builders' out there everywhere.

@WARRIORWELDING Which trans do you have? 47RH/RE, 48RE or 68RFE?

@Hurley 48RE trans . 2006 4wd Quad cab.

how industrious are you? Buying parts and doing a stock rebuild with a decent aftermarket converter would be a viable option.

As far as the 48RE is concerned, the TCM and control system for it is fairly smart and has a wide range of control over operation.

Spoke to my buddy to rehash and get his opinion of these guys in Winston. He really recommended Mighty. I asked him again about his build. He reassured me that they did the job well on the trans. Turns out he had done a bunch of tuning that resulted in maxing out the fuel delivery and that was the actual dead spot in the pull. He had invested a lot and the fuel delivery was far from stock. He just found the point where he didn't want or need to keep investing for that squeeze of extra pull. His truck was already no joke, so he settled and eventually sold.

In short gave them a call. So far super impressed.

Industrious, but would much rather focus that time and energy into something more beneficial to me. I got a little to spend but absolutely no time to waste.

James is a extremly knowledgeable and kind guy! I've only met him once on a job that he'd worked on. I really appreciated how customer oriented he was. Top notch guy in my book!

Small follow up.
Mighty Transmission earned my business.
They also earned my respect and repeat business.
Honest, respectful, and gracious to work with my stupid hours.
Had one shop treat me as fill in with no real expected work dates.
Had more than one quote stupid numbers for padding when I knew the issue.
Mighty gave one quote and stuck to it. And was honest. We discussed the fact anything is possible and would be extra if unknowns were found. I always understand and know this from my background. He is one of the few who don't twist this too an advantage or make padding in prices just because.
Asked for some valve body mods and ended up with the perfect shift firmness for a person who tows a lot and wants the wife happy in the passenger seat. Job well done.
