I am in the process of installing a set of used RE 3.5" springs on my 03 Rubicon. I currently run 2" springs (4WD Hardware... made by BDS) with a 1" spacer. I thought this would allow me to get rid of the spacer and "finish" my lift...

The issue at hand is that upon pulling the old springs and matching them up with the RE springs, the RE springs are only 1/2" longer. They have the same number of coils, although the metal of the coils is 1/4" larger diameter than the old ones.

I am wondering if I should just bag it and put my old springs back on or add the RE springs with the spacer and acheive that small amount of lift I was after in the first place.

Should I expect the RE springs to sag less beacuse of that 1/4 inch addition thickness of the metal.

I am going to leave the Jeep up on the jackstands until the morning awaiting an answer that makes some sense to me...

Thanks for your help.

Putting the new springs on can't hurt. They will sag less because they are thicker. Thanks JOHN

they may sit the same when not compressed...but they're different spring rates than the ones you have...

you should have no problems getting 4" of lift from those used RE springs...

Greg

They will sag less, however, on every kit I have installed, maybe a dozen in the last year normally on a 4 inch lift kit the spring would be about 4 inches longer than the stock reguardless of spring rating. Thanks John

Thanks guys. I beleive I will put them on in the morning. The bottom of my front bumper was right at 24" before I began this project, so I will be looking for it to be 24.5 - 25 inches...

In your experience, does that sound about right for an RE3.5 lift?

Thanks

No, you should gain at the fairly least 3.5. I would even think you would gain 4 or more because of the sagging your stocks springs would already have.

remember he's comparing his 2" springs and 1" spacer to the 3.5" springs...

JohnC...can't remember what my measurements were, but I'd think you should see the .5"-1" you're looking for...

Greg

Thanks Greg, I'll post up in the morning and let you all know how it turns out.

Thanks again.

no guarantee...

but RE makes good stuff...so depending on how "used" it actually is, you should be OK...

also...measure tomorrow, before and after...and then measure again in a week or so...it may all settle just a bit...

Greg

Bingo... Put the springs on and BOOM.... 2" gain as measured at the bottom of the front bumper... (24" to start, now 26")...

Thanks for the advice!

good to hear...expect it to settle a little bit, but not much...

most companies (like 4WD) will measure their springs new (the 2")...whereas RE seems to measure what theirs will finally sag/settle down to, which is why the 3.5" springs generally give around 4.5" when originally installed...
