Suspension seat mounting?

How are your suspension seats mounted?

Finally planning to mount the (lightly used) Corbeau's that have been sitting in the basement floor for 2+ years...

I've got a good idea on how to mod the cage (door bars from A to B pillars & a couple stringers between them for mounting), but can't decide whether to mount them in single or double shear? While single shear should be less work & pretty dang strong, double shear should be even stronger, but worth the extra tabs/time/alignment hassles?
 
Buy the double shear tabs for A A fab and be done with it.... Use them on your belts also.
 
I debated on this a bit.. Then mounted em in single shear... After looking at the rating for 4 x 3/8" grade 8 bolts, then looking at the seat construction it self I didn't seem like a big deal. That said if I feel they are becoming a problem, I can make it double sheer.

That was kinda my thinking regarding single shear too. The tabs off the seat are only 1/8" & there's decent material around the holes... if I can keep the cage side tabs short (under 2" tube>hole), I don't see an issue :confused:
 
I had them mounted in single shear on my buggy, never had a problem, and that was after some hard driving and about 7-8 races. The tabs I used were short though, if you have long tabs I would be more inclined to do double shear, I'd feel safer with short tabs in single than I would with tabs over 4" and double...
 
FTS... single shear. Unless your welds suck or your nuts are loose, you're going to break a lot of other stuff before you tear that tab. Do the math on tearout for a fawking 11ga tab with 1/2" of meat all the way around.

Single shear should be plenty strong....but I've always wanted to do double shear with some type of lynch pin so I could easily remove the seats for cleaning.

The tab will fail long before the grade 8 hardware. With .250" meat around a .500" hole, it should withstand about 2700# per tab. Increase to .500" around hole, and damn near triple that.

I thought about it... and figured it would take 'several thousand pounds' to tear the tab. That's as far as I felt motivated to take it. :lol:
