Looking for a swap into my 1984 toyota 4x4 truck. Pretty new at this whole 4 wheeling thing. But my truck is lifted 8in leaf spring, in shackles, 3in body lift rough country suspension. weber carb and a msd box. Have some 42 rock crawlers on, and doesnt feel enough power to the wheel. So thats why I want to inquire about swapping atleast a v8 but a v6 is fine.

So anyone with an estimated total cost? And do ya know anyone that does the swap? thanks

well....
It's not going to be cheap....
New
radiator
wiring
motor/trans/case
driveshafts
mounts and tabs
Then you will need to build the axles...cause the v8 will be a bit much for them
This will be an expensive swap if you do it right

Have you re geared the axles? A doubler would help in the wheeling department, unless all you want to do is mud. And a doubler is much cheaper.

I have a 5.7 vortec in my 85 4-runner. Space is very tight. Cooling is another big issue due to the tight motor compartment. You will need a 3" body lift to squeeze the V8 in w/o having to do sheet metal work.

Help me here guys, but I can't see a shop doing it in less than 60 - 80 hours plus parts cost. Probably more in reality. If the hourly rate were $40/hr, your looking at $2,400 - $3,200 in labor alone. That sounds high, but there are a million details that have to be looked after.

Just my 2 cents.

I did mine without a body lift but it was a real bitch. I removed a good bit of the firewall.

I had a lot of hours in my swap.

The 4.3 swap is pretty common, as is a 305 or 350. Don't have the space problems w/ the 4.3. Alot of info and guidance to be had online on these b/c they are common.

If you want to "keep it in the family", can go Toy 7mge (3.4) or the turbo 7mgte. Several good writeups on these, although that swap is easier if you start w/teh 3.0 b/c of exhaust/starter/motor mounts etc.

but yeah if you pay a shop, get out yer wallet.
