Any advice on putting a 92 efi 2wd motor into an 84 carbed 4x4 besides swapping the oilpans? The donor truck is complete and runs strong.

I used a 2wd block in my truck and if I remember right I had to swap the pieces that have the bottom bell housing bolts off the old 4wd block because the holes were a different size.

Probably just swap the sending unit but idk

2wd block?..........is this swap a bitch? I know all the controls would need to be changed, I've read the wiring harness would not work w the 84 gauges or it would need to be spliced ? I was thinking it might be cheap/somewhat easy. Would it be cheaper/easier to swap another motor ? I can get the 92 truck/motor fer cheap.

How bad you want it to work?...lol i did the exact same swap in my 84.

its toooooo easy.... just time consuming

I had a friend who did this about 8 years back. 2wd 90s model efi engine to 84 4wd carb body. He used the dash and wiring harness from the 2wd truck too so everything hooked back up, controls, gauges computer and all that. The newer dash looked pretty cool in that truck too. Everything worked pretty well, the trucks still going good today. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

The blocks themselves are the same, but as mentioned you'll need all the other native stuff. Bellhousings are different too.
Basically consider it a block-swap.
