I used a 2wd block in my truck and if I remember right I had to swap the pieces that have the bottom bell housing bolts off the old 4wd block because the holes were a different size.
2wd block?..........is this swap a bitch? I know all the controls would need to be changed, I've read the wiring harness would not work w the 84 gauges or it would need to be spliced ? I was thinking it might be cheap/somewhat easy. Would it be cheaper/easier to swap another motor ? I can get the 92 truck/motor fer cheap.
I had a friend who did this about 8 years back. 2wd 90s model efi engine to 84 4wd carb body. He used the dash and wiring harness from the 2wd truck too so everything hooked back up, controls, gauges computer and all that. The newer dash looked pretty cool in that truck too. Everything worked pretty well, the trucks still going good today. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
I don't remember what he did about the efi gas tank. I think he might have used the 2wd gas tank too, but he might have got a 4wd efi tank I don't recall.
The blocks themselves are the same, but as mentioned you'll need all the other native stuff. Bellhousings are different too.
Basically consider it a block-swap.
