i have a 95 zj with 4.0 and my gears in my rear end are about shot. I have another D35 with the same gears( 3.73) and was wondering if instead of swapping out the whole rear axle bc some of the brackets are broke on the other axle if i could just pull the gears out and put them in the one under my jeep? Not sure if i could have to worry about the back spacing or anything else doing that tho..

I would say swapping the entire rear end would be less work than pulling shafts/carriers/gears. It is not recommended to swap gears into a differnt housing without checking (and adjusting as necessary) pinion depth and gear backlash.

And why bother with the D35...

x100. At least upgrade to a 44a, they all came with 3.73s and you can find them in the rear of 96-98 5.2 and 5.9 ZJs
stay away from the d35 At least upgrade to a 44a
the dana 35 is not worth the time to fix

the only reason im puttin that other D35 in there cause i got it for free and its all good inside and its just sittin around now, id be eventually swapping in a better axle. id love to swap in the 8.8 but aint got the money.. i would think i could find the 8.8 for just at much money as the 44a, but i might be wrong

44a's are cheap and a direct bolt in, as you know 8.8s are not a bolt in

yeah i no the 8.8 aint bolt in but im just gona stick with the D35 for now cause running 31s and hardly gettin a chance to offroad so itll be just fine and whenever i get the money ima get a 8.8. i dont see a point in buyin a D44a when i gota good axle in the shop and its not like im running huge tires and hardcore offroading

Very true. Just be careful, I snapped all the spider gears in my d35 with no lift 30x9.5s, backing out of a parking spot...

dang! well i sure hope mine doesnt do that, but if it does i no theres the D44a or the 8.8 i could put in there. but thanks everyone for their input. i just mainly wanted to no if i could just swap the gears and i no thats not too easy so ima just swap the whole axle and roll with it unless anyone wants to donate a D44a:bounce2:
