looking for ideas for a passenger step to get into the truck.
I have square ladder-style rocker panel gaurds already, for me they are just about the right height to use as a step but aparently still too tall for wife, she complains every time she gets in, and son def can't climb in.
Seems most steps just bolt on and hang or swing down, but looking at the scratches on my bars already I could see it getting destroyed/knocked off easily.

I'm thinking of fabbing something w/ pivoting arms that swing up between the between the two rails of the guards, so when down, like this \ / then fold up to this -- --, maybe connect via rope/chain? The key being that when up, they are tucked between the rails so out of the way.

hang some chain

Made this for my kids, pull pin and flip over to get in, could've done a swing down but was in a hurry when I made it.

Need to put a swivel and a super soaker on it when it's up

Or copy something like the Rhino step or the slide up and in on this page;

I have a simple rope ladder on Leslie's side of the Jeep. Ties under the seat, pull it out and step up and then just tuck it back under the seat. Simple,. two ropes, a piece of channel at the end. (Mine was an actual tread from a fire escape ladder, so has good traction. ) You just have to step straight up, if you lean back, it goes under the Jeep.

I think the main issue *ISN'T* the height of the Toy or her stature... but a more deeply rooted problem of just not wanting to be seen with HIM, period! :lol:

Well there is that.

I'm going with the philosophy that anything that makes her not hate it as much works in my favor in the long run :driver:

Exactly why I am painting mine and finally making it look like something that "doesn't make me embarassed to ride in" :driver:

Next time you see a Land Rover Discovery look at the rear step to get in to the trunk. It is a peice of square tubing that runs under the truck in your case to the frame. It has a pivot point at the frame and comes out with a flat step on the end. There is a gas shock that holds it up tight to the body and you just walk up to it a put your toe on it and push down. It drops down and stops a foot or so off the ground. when you get in the gas shock pulls it right back up. It's pretty much the same principal as a stair stepping machine for exercising. They would be very simple to make and you can get cheap short travel gas shocks from SurplusCenter.com.
Here's a pic of what they look like rover step.jpg
