I'm trying to find out a couple things about a Yamaha Rhino. How much power will the stock tranny and diffs hold?
The plans are to use Rhino or RZR diffs and tranny and run a 800cc 2 stroke sled motor that makes about 140hp. Also a chromoly chassis will be build since this will go through some serious abuse and have a different suspension setup.
Its a off the wall question but I was hoping someone might have experience with the rhinos.
Thanks

Did you try some of the sxs/rhino boards? Crazily modified sxs's haven't really worked their way east yet. That being said, as much as those things cost...rhino or rzr parts would be the last place I would look for IFS/IRS stuff. Especially at 140hp. Sounds like a cool idea though.

I understand, I agree that the SxS haven't caught on yet. The deal is I can get a RZR or a Rhino as a donor. The RZR is sporty and faster but I don't think the parts are as strong as the Rhino. The idea came from being all all week on a RZR S. Its not worth putting a 6k turbo kit on a expensive bike when I can build one for probably half and it be twice as fast. Ill check the boards and see what I can find.
When I start my little project I'll post it up, its a little different.

i will be starting my motor project in the spring of putting a built r1 motor in my rhino, the 660 motor i have is highly modded and i had to put in gorilla axels .no problems with the diffs or gearbox yet and they have been put to the test. its worth a try

Yeah I was wanting to go with a RC51 motor or TL motor for the low in grunt for the trails but I haven't looked em over close enough and don't really know how to get reverse with it. For that reason I plan on using the stock tranny so I hope it can hold the power. I plan on jumping the sh*t out of this thing, but Ill race ya when they're both done...Let me know how your build goes.

There is one problem with you tube videos. Not many of them go through serious abuse except for the dunes. They all start them up and pretty much say this is the most bad ass SxS ever made, they start it up, walk around it and smoke the tires in the parking lot. It makes me think that its a glorified golf cart rolling around on the street. On the other hand the dunes are sick since they can catch good air but that's it. If we had dunes I'd be all for it. But you don't need reverse in the dunes, so they're setup wouldn't work for me. From what I've done so far I would not use a standard clutch. There's no way to keep control of it flying down the trail at 40mph without hitting a tree. Think about using a auto clutch if you're using a bike tranny.
Guess I need to call dragonfire tomorrow.

After talking with many company's and many sled salvage yards it appears that the sled motor won't be ideal for my app. The 800cc twins are very very hard to keep cool no matter what.
With that being said I'm going back to my original idea of the RC51 or TL engine for the smooth power and broad tq range.
All I have now is 2 questions:
1. How do you get reverse?
2. How do you keep 4wd?

May not help or be relevant but the first few weeks I had my RZR a big cable got caught around one of the rear tires/axle in a mud hole and snapped one of my axle shafts, $350 just for the shaft and it wasn't covered by the warranty because the boot was torn in the process. I was told that type of shaft is no longer used.
