I've got some ideas on this but just can't pass up actually experience, which I haven't run into yet.

How will you surely know when your synchros in your transmission are shot completely? How will you know when they are on their way out?

Just looking for some characteristics and expected results when driving/ parking.
Thanks

Worn synchros are generally characterized by grinding when puttin it into gear when shifting normally (With using clutch.) With completely worn out synchros the you won't be able to get into that gear, sometimes even with the engine off.

Ok, thats what I figured.
I was also told that with really bad synchros, often times you might be kicked out of gear while driving, etc.
I should be in good shape, just interested in what to look for.
Thanks

what tranny do you have (is this on your s-10? )

Most trannys have common symptoms when a syncro is going, some loose a specific gear syncro first.. (ex 2nd gear)

as rattlecan said its starts off as a small crunch/grinding sound as you shift into the gear.. It can progress to the point its difficult to shift etc.. As far as popping out of gear, that depends on the tranny as to what that can be.. But thats usually a sign of another problem, bearing/gears etc..
