Synthetic Oil in a 4.0

I personally think its a waste of money. I just put the mobil 5000 in mine with a mopar filter. And change it every 3k.

I use redline and change it...I cant remember when. Maybe 2 years ago. When i drove it daily id change it once a year. 12-15k miles

I Don't think I would. Synthetic oil in an engine with that many miles on it will leak like.

Going to have to disagree with the leak thing, unless it's already leaking. Then again, stranger things have happened! Think I'd stay with a 10w30/40. Wouldn't try that 0-5w, in older motor.
Don't see how it would hurt to try synthetic; if it leaks, or smokes, change back. There is also a Blend, that will save some green. I change my truck & jeep every year, but not due to mileage.

If you're bent on putting in synthetic in it, I'd suggest a blend.

Backstory: A buddy of mine and someone who I listen to when he talks told me one time that full syn is a fantastic lubricant, but does not carry dirt as well as dino oil. Dino oil is a good lubricant but is excellent at carrying dirt to the filter where it can be grabbed up. Normally, I don't go around listening to everything everyone says when the oil conversations come up, but this buy has been a professional wrench for as long as I've been alive (38 years) and was also a mechanic and crew chief for several NASCAR drivers baaaack in the day. I trust his opinion.

As for the causing leaks issue, I've definitely seen full syn make tiny leaks into a pain in the ass. Maybe not start leaking from no leak, but definitely from small to bigger.

Run it for 10k miles and get an analysis done. It will amaze you. Ive got a super Jew customer who has analyzed just about every oil on the market and has found the motorcraft syn blend is the best value. He goes about 10-12 per change and according to the analysis could go much longer.

I started running it in my 04 Grand with 110,000 on the ticker and no issues. Mobil 1 also has the high mileage synthetic now. Use that with a WIX or Mopar filter.
