Synthetic winch line recommendation

Not looking to spend a ton of money on this, but it looks like I'll need the 3/8" synthetic winch line at a minimum for use on a 10k lb winch.

On my last jeep I ran the 5/16, 50' trail gear cable and it did fine on that, but appears to be discontinued and a little too light duty for use on my super duty.

Looking for opinions or experiences with reasonably priced line.

Thanks - Brandon

You can use 5/16" to save money. I don't think 3/8" gets bound up in the spool as badly as 5/16", but either one is plenty strong.

We have Masterpull on both of ours, but I didn't pay anywhere near $650. Hell, I spent less than that for both of them.

Not sure what you plan to use your superduty for, but on stuff where the line sees abuse, I prefer steel cable vs synthetic. I know I will get flack for it, but when its going to be abraiding over surfaces and in the mud alot, cable holds up much better than rope. Yes you can splice the rope back together, and it is safer if it breaks.

I recall a few years back there were a number of top rigs at TTC that lost it in the Trap because their rope broke. It was overworked and full of mud and being abused in a way it wasnt designed to be. That is an extreme case, but just saying that rope isnt always the best choice.

That's what cable blankets are for.. just avoid shock loads & change it when it gets frays. My 6k is wound with steel cable and I don't think I'll put syn on it because I use it to load cars on my trailer mainly and it often gets dragged across the trailer frame. Jeep recovery is it's secondary purpose in life.

@paradisePWoffrd thats reasonable. And it could be pulling shitbox cars onto shitbox trailers, a hard environment for rope.

My superwinch 10k is currently spooled with the factory cable and nothing is wrong with it, mainly just wanting to change from a roller fairlead to hawse fairlead with rope. The hawse fairlead is more low profile.
