I have decided to run a t-18 in the cj I've found one out of a FSJ will that bolt up to my 401 I was previously running a t-150. I have streched the rear 10'' and dana 20 transfer case will this work without a lot of $$$$ seem the more I research t-18's the more confused I get! thanks

I think you will need to replace the long FSJ input shaft with a short shaft. You should be able to use the T150 bellhsg (need to add a carriage bolt or wheel stud), then grind the shift fork for clearance. The D20 should bolt right up if you have the factory cast adapter; I'm not sure if this cast adapter is different for other tcases. The D20 linkage will need to be swapped or lengthened to get it back close to where it was in the CJ. The T150 mount will not work, you'll can replace or mod. the U-channel section with a piece of 3/8"-1/2" plate. The tranny skid plate will have to move back one set of holes (on 76-79 CJ, other CJs may require new holes). Front driveshaft gets longer, rear gets shorter.
That's off the top of my head from doing this swap over 5 years ago; it can be confusing, good luck!

he's got a 401. that should bolt up. i believe this modification is only for the 258/232 inline sixes.

Issue is with b/h depth and subsequent effect on the driveshaft length, not fit-up.

I got a T18a in my CJ5, I was lucky to find an oem CJ setup, the shortest possible combo....still, my rear driveshaft is just a hair longer than 16". The 10" stretch will help (is this a -5 or -7??), but you need that length anyway...not to lose it again in the b/h depth.

I bought a t-18 today it is from a fsj the input shaft is alot longer ,the bellhousing was not included. I have a trans I bought in a 5 gal. bucket that is supposed to be a t18 from a cj and the input shaft looks shorter but also smaller in dia. The only reason Iwanted to use the shorter version was because I have a lakewood scatter shield I was hoping would fit the t18 with shorter shaft, if I have too I'll start looking for a fsj bell housing. WHAT WOULD YOU DO??? Thanks I appreciate your time and knowledge. I almost forgot it's a cj 5 and I finished tonite with a 12'' rear strech I think I'll do a 4'' on the front.

well with that amount of stretch on the rear it don't think you have to worry about driveshaft length anymore. look at the casting #'s on the sides of these t-18's. some jeep t-18's have a 4.1 1st gear and some have the 6.32 1st gear. if i remember right "T18A" casting is going to have the 6.32 ratio. oh it would also pay to pull the top cover and inspect each for damage or excessive wear unless you are planning on rebuilding the unit.

I thought the CJ bellhousings had a spacer they used for the t18s. I could be wrong but I think that's what I remember. Btw, I loved my t18a. Wish I could have kept it. The d20 is going to be the downfall. 10 spline output shafts won't last long.

I re-used my T150 bellhsg with no spacer. I love my granny low T18 too, D20 hasnt chunked yet

I'm trying to locate a shorter input shaft so I won't be wasting the strech I added, plus gain a better driveshaft angle ,also I don't want to cut up my glass tub anymore. I think thats what makes jeeps so damn interesting their made out of every part you can imagine.
