Well i thought I'd put this bad boy together today. Shit ain't happening. Not sure what's wrong but all I've ever heard is that they fit. There were two different bull gears I believe but I'm not sure. What am I missing?

You will need a Dana 300 bull gear from a 1980 International Scout. That is the only one that will work. There is an automatic (23 spline) and manual (6 spline) version of the bull gear. That is the spline count of the trans output shaft. You can have an automatic bull gear machined to fit the 6 spline manual output.

You have the Dana 20 bull gear on your T18.

I have a scout TF727 sitting in the barn that still has the bull gear on it (can't guarantee the condition of it). Sounds like you would have to have it machined, but if it helps you any your more that welcome to it.

The AMC T18 and the IH T19 have the same six spline output on the transmission mainshaft. The difference is the shape and number of spurs on the tcase side of the bull gear. The 1980 Scout was the only production vehicle to use the bull gear driven D300 with the "Texas" bolt pattern that would bolt in place of the Dana 20. In 1980 AMC went to the more modern round pattern D300 that has the input gear contained in the Tcase.

Only a 1980 IH T19 bull gear will work. Previous years (TF727 and T19) had a Dana 20, which is what you have now.
