Tacoma Differential Rebuild Help

Hi everyone. Here's my issue. I have an 08 Tacoma 2.7L open diff 4x4. There is a groaning noise which resembles that of very aggressive off road tires on pavement ...only , its not. This groan occurs going straight and turning left...but goes away when turning right. It increases linearly with speed. There is no vibration to be felt. I suspected it was a wheel bearing so I replaced both front and rear passenger side bearings...the noise was still there. I checked the drive shaft carrier bearing. Fairly snug and very little play. Finally, I changed the front diff fluid...it looked like liquid metal. The magnet was filled beyond capacity and the fluid was clearly ruined. So , I suspect this groaning noise is actually a diff noise. I've owned the truck for 20k miles. It has 90k on it currently. Is there anyone out there who has had a similar issue and/or knows anyone who is seasoned in helping to rebuild a differential for the right price? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

East Coast Gear Supply is right down the road from you.

If that's a unit bearing setup, it could also be the driver's side bearing. In my experience, they make more noise when they're not loaded. So the noisy bearing on a left hand turn is actually on the left side.

Either way, ECGS can look it all over and figure out what's wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I'll jack it up and check for play in the bearing. If that doesn't seem to be it Ill call up East Coast Gear. I've heard of them but I thought they were simply a supplier.. not a repair facility
