i have a 96 taco with the 2.7 3RZ motor. it started idleing high, but you can tap the gas and it idles back down. the check engine light is not on. any ideas?

I had a similar problem with my '97 Runner 3.4L . cleaned the T-body, IAC, mass air, it ran much better, but still idled high.

worked the throttle a few times by hand and noticed that it would not return fully seated to the stop screw. pulled the dash pot, that didn't help, tried to clean the throttle shaft, wasn't willing to mess with the staked butterfly screws to pull the plate and shaft. ended up adding a small spring to the linkage and all is well since.

If I happen to come across another 3.4 t-body, I'll mess with it again.

ill give you $500 cash as is ill take your problems away tomorrow!!
what about $425 and i'll deliver it for free? even throw in a full tank of gas

thanks kevin, i'll check for binding issues this evening

Try unclipping the cable from the linkage and see if the cable binds if cleaning it doesn't work. And I gotta say it since it's a Toyota. Checked your floor mat? (My '85 4runner project does this exact same thing only it idles at like 2000 rpm till you snap the throttle. My problem is the linkage where the cable on the engine side is so worn out it binds. I'm gonna add another spring once I get home.)
