OK, I started looking at Jeep Unlimiteds to replace my XJ, and now here I am visiting Toyota dealers.

I've found fair prices at a BIG dealership on several 2014 Tacos and I've narrowed it down to the SR5 package or TRD Sport (can't do TRD OffRoad since I must have long bed).

I have done my research, I understand the packages, but I am at one head-scratching question: according to Toyota, the TRD Sport and SR5 both have LSD rear end. I was originally told the SR5 did NOT have LSD and Sport did have it. Toyota site confirms LSD. Fine.

The TRD Sport package then only gives these real advantages: nicer cloth seats (water resistant), an overhead console, a DC inverted to AC plug in the bed, and some silly exterior colour changes (scoop isn't my favorite).

I gotta have the V6, tow package, automagic trans, 4x4, long bed. Both packages are combined into the SR5 or TRD Sport...

Then, out of the blue, one of these Toyota guys claims the TRD Sport has a larger rear end than the SR5 and TRD OffRoad.

Any truth to this?

Difference in engines or transmissions?

Personally I wouldn't get one w/o the full locker rear end... but I guess it really depends if you plan to seriously use it offroad or not.

RatLab, if the OffRoad pack with locker were available long bed, that would be it, done, sitting in the drive way.

I'm not a big offroad guy. Just an avid outdoors type. For the sake of history, my XJ on OME suspension and 30" tyres always worked just fine.

I'm only considering v6, 4x4, auto trans.

I have a 4 door long bed spot with the lsd and it works surprising well not sure about the rear end tho

Thanks 'Josh!

Any other Yotaheads out there who can support $1000 or more extra for the TRD Sport over SR5? I have to wait until the 15th to see an SR5 package...none anywhere close!

The TRD Offroad package will have the 8 inch locking different while all other should have the 8.4. Personally I'm not a fan of 2nd gen Tacoma's. If it were me I'd take a look at 01-04 xtra cabs or dbl cab with the TRD package , it can also come with the SR5 package as well but most will be Limited.
