I am moving to Alaska on 10 March 2009. The Army will ship one vehicle, I currently own four... A 2XXX Honda Odyssey (MUST have, 4 kids!), a 2006 2500HD 4X4, a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, and a 1984 K5.

The minivan is going as stated before, it's mandatory. I plan to sell the HD and ship the Jeep. Would you pay ~$2K to ship your trail rig? I really want to take it, but $2K is alot of loot to me (my cage was quoted at that much). I know there's some good wheeling up there but I don't want it to turn into a rust heap either... I have a buddy that will store it for me, but I also want to get it caged and stuff. Should I ask him to transport it to and from the cage shop also or would it seem like I am using him?

Let the wife drive the Honda, you drive the 2500HD, tow the Jeep, and let Same Take the K5
or
Tow the Honda with the HD, Let Sam ship the Jeep, and sell the K5 to pay for the fuel.

Depends on the friend, just ask him if he's willing to do that for you. Offer to pay him some for his troubles.

I'd keep your K5 on 'tons and ship that, and ditch the jeep thing, but that's just me. It won't rust if you don't drive it on the roads when it's snow-covered, well..no worse than just sitting in NC.

If the jeep is mildly built, you might be better off not keeping it.

I've heard so many people with stories of "My _____ offered to store my ______", I've rarely seen it turn out well, unless they are storing it inside a climate-controlled, hard-floored warehouse on jackstands, and a battery tender on it.

lol...your going to alaska and pondering leaving the K5 behind?

i talked to a guy yesterday that had the same choice...except he was coming from alaska to down here. He bought a truck and towed his jeep down here.If i were you..... Drive the 2500 and buy a two car trailer and pull the jeep/k5 up there with ya. Trailer will cost you what they want to tow it fore you and you can keep the trailer or resale it when your done.

let them ship the most difficult vehicle. To me, it looks like the K5 (assuming that is the trail rig)

Sell the Jeep and buy a trailer and tow the Odyssey up there with the 2500

From looking at pictures of your K5, I would certainly say keep it if you can afford to. It's a nice one.

I would tow the van with the HD, but the HD only seats 5, I need 6 seats. They guy that's storing it for me is a REALLY stand-up dude. The HD was basically for towing the K5 anyway, no big loss... It looks like the Jeep is gonna get a few mods in AK. :)

Good luck selling the truck. I had a rough time with mine. Let me know if you need any help with it, before or after you move. I say store the K5 for now and if you feel as though you need it there pay to have it shipped later. Just my thoughts. How do you think the van will do in the snow. I could get six in 05 GMC with three of them being car seats.

If they ship one vehicle I bet they will also pay plane tickets? Send the family and odessy on their dime. Keep the diesel and K5. Sell the jeep and tow the K5 with the diesel.

6.0L gasser, it tows good though. Sean, I got the stoopid Bose package, limited me to 5 seats (Only 3 kids at that time).

Not a bad idea, airmail the future ex-wife and kids, and drive myself....
