Balance food on top of bottle.
Rat tries to climb across the bottle to get food, it rotates around the spindle, dumping him in the bucket.

Works well if rats are fat and uncoordinated lol

Pretty close.... put a few inches of water in the bucket. Smear peanut butter on the bottle. Run a couple of boards up to the lip of the bucket, just resting on the edge. Mouse jumps from board to bottle, does a spinning backflip into the water, drowns. Best mousetrap I have found. Couple of years ago I got several in one night.

I just did the same last week using traps. Got 3 in a week, and found the nest with 2 babies in it. Took those to a friend who keeps snakes. Nest was in the dang headstock of my lathe, happened to find it by chance.

I found their nest last week, which lead to this killing. They had nested in one of my parts cabinet drawers....full of misc. roller and thrust bearings that I'd picked up at our Habitat store. They were handy to have around for various projects. Now, most of them are rusted with mouse piss, and are now in the scrap metal bin. Last time, it was in my tool cabinet, on top of my big combination wrenches....that stuff eats thru chrome plating on crapsman and snapon wrenches. :(

I have had a similar experience with bats. Guano will indeed strip off chrome plating, or make otherwise good steel rusty.
