Hey,

got a speeding ticket a short while back. officer wrote it for 9mph over. however, back during the spring i had a speeding ticket (12 over) but had to get a lawyer for it because it was on an exam day. ne ways, the lawyer just entered a prayer for judgement. now i'm screwed because i can't just pay this ticket because i'll also be charged with the previous ticket.

what i want to know is if there is a day i can go in and talk to the DA about my situation and see if he'll reduce it to an improper equipment charge for me. if he won't do that, then i'll have to get a lawyer. i've kinda waited till the last min on this though since my court date is thursday.

thanks,
bigmac

Yeah, a lawyer can get you a second PJC. I got my own the first time, and paid a lawyer for the second.

you could always run the Defensive Driving course to get it dropped to Improper Equipment charge....

50$ I believe, but you can only run it once every 3 years i think

You'll want to check with your insurance agent (tell them it's for a friend if you must). Unless things have changed since I was selling insurance, you can get a 2nd PJC, but from an insurance perspective, they will charge you for both incidents. That will cost you.

Not all counties do the improper equipment thing, and waiting till 3 days before to get stuff done isn't going to help in any manner.

Was the ticket in Wake County? I know that they are one of the few counties that will not allow a speedo calibration for improper equpment. This *may* mean that they do not accept improper equipment in place of the ticket at all.
And, uh, yeah - 3 days beforehand doesn ot bode you well for leverage. Call some lawyers, they'll tell you what they can do for oyu.

Good luck with the pjc and insurance. While by law you cant be charged points you can and probaly will be "rated". My pjc has me in the NC reinsurance pool at a 50% increase in rates and the only way I retained full coverage on my CTD was to talk direct with a underwriter who signed off on it. No one else would touch it and even with the issue Farm Bureau was the least expensive to keep coverage with by far.

Not that it helps much now but using your pjc for a 12 over speeding violation isnt the greatest idea. I dont know about the DA in your area but I saw the one here let a guy off for doing 20 over. I guess it depends on the mood he's in, but going to talk to him never hurts.
