And I finally found last night what the hell everyone is talking about - well recently that is.
There's been enough jackasses in the woods - new jackasses with heeps and yotas and mommie or daddy's money or just the plain ol brand new people with no brains or mentors and fuckin up the scenery in the woods. Learn the rules, written or not. It aint a free-for-all. Public don't mean its your backyard. And I don't pretent to own shit but my dirt around my home.

If it does come out in other venues, wouldn't it be better to show we are policing our own rather than not talking about or hiding via PM's the stupid :poop: people do?

I think if anyone is caught doing something stupid or ilegal on the trails they need to be reported ASAP. Get the plate of the vehicle, description, and possibly a picture or video then hand it over to the Rangers. Everytime I get on here it seems like there is a new "this person did this or that on the trail" thread and there is never any names mentioned. If I were to catch someone doing something on the trail that I knew was not okay to be doing or someplace I knew was not a good place to be I would report them immediately. I wouldn't do this because I'm a snitch or a tattle tail it's because I love this sport and I don't want to see it go away. In SD people that got caught doing something or being some place they shouldn't be they recieved a healthy fine; something like $500 on the spot. I'm not sure what it is here and I'm sure you guys know, but, if we were to just pull together and report these actions to the Rangers word would get around that there are people watching and fines are being handed out. As for me I don't know where the trails are nor do I have the money to go wheeling at this point and time but I don't just go to some trail and hammer it since I don't know if it's a legal spot or not. We could also mention names, vehicle, and infraction on here so they can be publicly outed. This goes for all of those idiots that go to some place ilegal and get stuck then come on here begging for help. I personally refuse to go drag someone out of a place they shouldn't be since that would make me no better than them. I would however go and try to get someone out that was in a legal area because I'm a nice guy and I fully believe in paying it forward. I'm just saying next time someone gets caught doing something or ask for someone else to put up something on the matter just put a name, vehicle description, and infraction so everyone can see it. This problem is not an easy fix and there are no easy answers to solve the problem all we can do as advocates of the sport we love is educate those that do not know so they won't make the mistakes that make this sport look bad.
 
K, I agree there is some degree of responsibility that has to be taken at some point . . .

But if "concerned citizen X" were to report someone to a ranger without at least first saying to them "hey man you shouldn't be doing that", pretty sure makes "concerned citizen X" one of the lowest of the low, cry baby, just absolutely gutless pieces of slime out there, that didn't have half enough freakin male "you know whats" to at least say something to the person committing the infraction first.

Sorry I am just trying to describe how much I detest people that tattletell while still personally trying to remaining neutral and not in fact personally attacking you twistedjeepster - just trying to merely illustrate a point of view that I feel very strongly about in any aspect of life . . . if "concerned citizen X" has an issue with someone, regardless of what/where it is thats going on, he needs to have the freakin common courtesy to take it up with them personally first, then proceed from there

Now, if "concerned citizen X" told someone to stop and threatened to report them and the person committing said illegal or immoral doings ignored you . . . well . . . thats a different story

Just saying whoever "concerned citizen X" is needs to have the self respect and half of what any person that calls themselves a man's confidence to at least say something to the person committing the infraction before you go pointing fingers to the rangers.

I know personally I do dumb stuff on occasion . . . and all it has taken is someone just saying "hey dude don't do that, here's why" and it solved the problem from that point forward.
 
I could be wrong, but it seems the more you report, just gives them more shit to sling at you. I would not tell a park ranger :poop:. All you rats will be the reason a park gets shut down. Go wheelin, have fun, mind your on buisness and let the park rangers do there job. :beer:
 
If the rangers know they have people on their side it helps alot. The rangers mostly like the wheeling sport, if we weren't there, they wouldn't have a job. I agree, if you see someone doing something illegal, tell them not to. In the case with 20"yota I don't think it made a difference, I didn't stay to watch, just told him not to do it and left after he rolled his eyes at me.

To put it another way, people doing illegal stuff even when told not to and getting tickets for it puts more $$$ in the budget...
 
you can talk about it all you want. but all of you know. YOU JUST CANT FIX STUPID!
stuff like this has been going on forever. it just like littering on the trails. some people have no respect and I guess just dont give a damn.
 
I have been that person to tell someone what they are doing wrong and why it is wrong to be doing but I have always recieved the same reaction which is basically go Eff myself; then they just go about what they were doing and usually go at it harder like they are proving a point. I'm just to the point of being fed up with all the idiots that think they are wheelers because their vehicle has the 4x4 option on it. We all know it is those people that all the enviromentalist bring whenever they have an argument over land use and the real wheelers that actually give a damn about the land and try to help the forest service get the :poop: end of the stick. I think that we are the ones to say something about wrong doing and the person just doesn't care and goes about doing it anyway then they need to be reported, but, if the person is obviously in the wrong and they know it then they just need to be reported. Common sense really comes into play and each situation will be different so they need to be handled differently. If a noob wheeler is in the wrong and they are told so one would hope they will straighten up.

I think if we as an offroad community are telling the Rangers/forest service of what we are seeing on the trails they may just go to bat for us when the times comes. I have yet to meet a Forest service worker that dis-liked a responsible wheeler. I would think it looks better on us if we are pointing out the wrong doings of others, because we are making sure that the rules/laws are being followed while on the trail.
 
My take on it is this.
If I see you acting irresponsible I will usually come up and try to talk to you in a reasonable, respectful, understanding and adult manner.

If you are a douchenozzle in response, or just unwilling to listen then I *may* enlist the help of others, I.E. the FS, but if you genuinely didnt know better, or even if you did and give me an effort to feign ignorance, I'll let it pass and move on with my life.

All that said, we do have to police our own, but we also have to understand that our idea of whats right may not apply to all others.

Everything beyond that is internet e-penis comparison, by the way, MINE IS HUGE :)
