I have been running an external fuel pump for my 5.7 tbi for some time. Works great but the whole 'it needs to push not pull' thing keeps me wondering if its worth the trouble to get an in-tank version and mate to a CJ tank. Also, the fact that its loud and not cooled makes me wonder if its a better environment in the tank anyway. So, do I take a TBI intank pump and make it fit my tank, or not worry about it? Pro/Cons and dangers of doing so? I would leave the one I have in place as a backup since its there.
Anybody got a $0.02?
I have a custom sid around my 1 year old tank so a new tank/skid is not is the plans so that option is out for now.

for $25
Seriously, if the external works fine, I wouldn't change it. Keep it regulated down and it should work for years. They're not designed to be cooled. Volvos use an in-tank pickup pump and a frame mounted high-pressure pump. The in-tank usually dies first, but nobody changes them because it's such a pain! VW, Volvo, Nissan, Honda, all use external pumps. All cars known for their reliability. If it does die, it's a 15 minute job to change it, and you don't have to drop the tank.
